Summer Activities
Would you like to see additional activities in our neighborhood? We
would love to have things for our families, but without assistance it is
not possible. The Board of Directors’ members all have full time jobs or
other family obligations that take up much of our time. We are an unpaid
voluntary Board with the interest of Concord Bridge at heart. If you have
ideas for neighborhood activities, get volunteers to help and present
your ideas to the Board. We will back legitimate activities to unite our
neighbors. There were several people at the annual meeting that advised
they would assist in activities and/or serving in various capacities. We
encourage you to step forward with your ideas and volunteers to assist.
Deed Restrictions
It’s unfortunate that something that should only involve common sense
seems to be ignored. Sometimes it appears that the Board of Directors
and/or Preferred Management Services are not paying attention to
homes that are in disrepair. Please understand letters are sent every 30
days. The third letter will be a registered letter. Each of these transactions
cost us a small fee, which is then charged back to the homeowner. If
the homeowner ignores the letters, our only recourse is to send it to
the attorney for legal action. At that time, the charges start adding up
quickly. All of these are charged back to the homeowner.
Deed restrictions were registered by the developer, your Board of
Directors is mandated to try to assure they are kept. They were created
as an attempt to maintain continuity within the neighborhood. Without
these standards, a home could be left in disrepair or abandoned and could
become a plight to our neighborhood. At entrances to the neighborhood,
there are signs declaring deed restrictions are strictly enforced and when
you purchased the home you were given a copy of the deed restrictions.
Please remember, this is a legal document in place to protect the value
of your home.
OFFICE SUITE FOR LEASE
in Copperfield area
If your home is not in good repair, it not only affects the value of it, but
the surrounding homes. In order to maintain our values, it is mandatory
that everyone make the necessary repairs, remove the mildew and/or
paint as needed.
Inoperable vehicles are to be repaired or removed. Covering them with
covers or tarps does not change the fact that they are not in compliance
with the deed restrictions. Motorized vehicles cannot be parked in the
yard or on your porch.
Includes 5-6 individual office spaces,
kitchen, supply room, reception area, storage closet, bathrooms.
Trash cans are to be stored out of sight. They should not be kept on your
front porch or in front of the garage. Please abide by the deed restrictions
and move them out of sight.
Your yard should be properly maintained, grass kept cut and neat. It
should be edged so that the grass does not grow over the sidewalk or
over the curbs. When trees and shrubs are trimmed, the limbs must be
bundled and tied in lengths that can be picked up by the trash company.
Preferred Management handles most of the business transactions for
Concord Bridge under the direction of your Board of Directors. If you
don’t understand any correspondence from Preferred Management,
please call for clarification. The homeowners association pays for
all correspondence related to deed restrictions, therefore duplicate
letters cost all of us additional fees. Do not ignore correspondence from
Preferred Management!
HOMEOWNERS RESPONSIBILITIES
As a homeowner you have certainly responsibilities. You are obligated to
pay taxes and homeowners association fees. Often people assume that is
the extent of their responsibilities.
There were deed restrictions set forth by the developer of the subdivision
with the intent of maintaining your home’s value.
As many of us have realized recently, these responsibilities often seem
to encroach on our ability to maintain our home in any manner we wish.
However, these deed restrictions are registered with the county and your
association has the obligation to remind us when they are not observed.
Sidewalks are a topic that has been discussed a lot recently. In years
past, the county had often repaired them. However, these are a part of
the homeowner’s responsibility. This work is not the responsibility of
Harris County or Concord Bridge HOA. Homeowners must have and must
maintain the sidewalk on their property.
If you do not have a copy of the deed restrictions for your section in
Concord Bridge, please contact Preferred Management Services and
request a copy.
PERIMETER HOMES
The first impression of our neighborhood is the backs of homes facing
W. Little York and Eldridge. Many of the homes that are on the perimeter
of Concord Bridge are in terrible shape! This takes away from the homes
that are maintained properly. It affects EVERY home in the subdivision.
If your home is one that backs up to our perimeter fences, please take a
look at your home. In many cases, the simple act of pressure washing the
mildew and mold will make a considerable improvement. In some cases,
these homes need paint and/or replacement siding. There are homes
with vines growing on the chimney and siding missing. The management
company will be making a special effort to note all of these homes and
letters will be sent asking for repairs/cleaning to be done.
www.constablepct5.com
Many services are offered by Precinct 5 that you may not be aware of.
Following is a brief description of some of these services and information
on how to find out more.
Crime Alerts: You can sign up on the Precinct 5 website and receive a
text message or email when important events are taking place in your
district. The alerts will contain relevant information regarding events.
You may unsubscribe at any time.
Citizen’s Police Academy: Learn about the various aspects of being a
police officer. Some classes will include hands on participation. The
course is held two and a half hours once a week for nine weeks. You must
be 21 age and up in order to participate. There is an application on the
Precinct 5 website.
Operation Safe Child: Precinct 5 has two certified child safety technicians
who are partnering with Texas Children’s Hospital to demonstrate the
proper usage and installation of car seats. They have current information
regarding styles, brands, recalls and the proper way to secure a child based
on age, height and weight. There will be quarterly sessions where you can
bring your child and their child seat to learn the proper way to install and
remove it. For more information and to sign up go to the website.
Home Safety Inspections: Upon your request, Precinct 5 will schedule
a free home inspection with one their certified Crime Prevention
Specialists. These officers, certified in both home and commercial
inspections, will make simple suggestions on how to better secure your
home. This inspection could save you 5% to 10% on your homeowners
insurance. To participate, contact Deputy John Jerome Kovar at 281-642-
8814 or by email at john.kovar@cn5.hctx.net.
There are other services available to local citizens. You can visit the website
for additional information and to sign up for the available services.
VACATION WATCH
Remember that our constables offer this valuable service. School is out
and the kids are bored. They often are unsupervised and seek thrills in
dangerous and malicious ways. If your home will be unoccupied while
your family is enjoying a vacation, you can complete a vacation watch
form and submit it to one of the officers patrolling in the neighborhood.
There are other services available to local citizens. You can visit the
appropriate website for additional information and to sign up for the
available services. ~ www.constablepct5.com
Concord Bridge Pets
Have you lost a pet or found a dog or cat? You can contact the Concord Bridge
Pet Hotline at 281-468-9414 and on the Facebook account, www.facebook.
com/#!/Concordbridgehotline. You can use this source to report lost and found
animals. This has been a great help in returning lost and found animals to their
owners. Even if you don’t have access to Facebook, you can call 281-468-9414. It
is far more efficient than posting illegal signs all over the neighborhood. Another
great source for finding a lost pet or reporting a rescued one is nextdoor.com/
concordbridge. Harris County requires that all pets be on a leash or confined
within your yard. Unleashed dogs are a nuisance to your neighbors and other
pets. Please pick up all dog waste and dispose of it properly. Remember, our
children play in the park areas and their yards. It’s very inconsiderate of you
to allow your dog to defecate if others yards and the parks. When walking your
dogs, please be prepared to remove any waste they may leave behind.
Meadows Community serves girls in the residence areas for the elementary schools listed below, as well as the corresponding middle and high
schools. Home schooled and private school students are always welcome. Our elementary schools are: Birkes, Fiest, Hairgrove, Horne, Kirk, Lee,
Lieder, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Tipps, Wilson, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Texas Christian School and Christian Life Center.
More information about Girl Scouts may be found on the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council website, www.gssjc. The Council phone number is 713-
girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.
Here are just a few activities that we have done within
the community recently: In December, we hosted a
community Holiday event for Girl Scouts and moms of all
levels. During the event we had lots of activities involving
the moms and daughters of which included making pet
toys to donate to a local animal shelter.
Cadette troop 113035 went to Special Pals on Saturday
4/9/19 and donated the hand-made pet toys along with
some of the wish list items from their organization and
a case of Girl Scout cookies for the hard workers and
volunteers! In February our community celebrated World
Thinking Day to promote changing the world for the better
and to celebrate being part of the global sisterhood that
is Girl Scouts. Our troops have also volunteered their time
and troop funds for community needs, participated in a
self-defense workshop, numerous badge work at both
troop and regional level, STEM activities, enjoyed the Girl
Scout camp properties and much more.
Enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year begins May 1,
BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA - COPPERHEAD DISTRICT
For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found
in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant
in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting
helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership
skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.
The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities
that allow them to:
• Try new things.
• Provide service to others.
• Build self-confidence.
• Reinforce ethical standards.
Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as
individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility
and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made,
peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made.
Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting
through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help
our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area
Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5
to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing
units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). Our Units typically meet weekly.
Many of our units are supported by the local Elementary Schools
You could make this on National Apple Pie Day May 13th!
INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons cold milk
1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
6 Fuji apples, cored and sliced
3/4 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
To Make Crust: In a large bowl, mix together 1 1/2 cups flour, oil, milk,
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar and salt until evenly blended. Pat mixture into
a 9 inch pie pan, spreading the dough evenly over the bottom and up
sides. Crimp edges of the dough around the perimeter.
To Make Filling: Mix together 3/4 cup sugar, 3 tablespoons flour,
cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkle over apples and toss to coat. Spread
evenly in unbaked pie shell.
To Make Topping: Using a pastry cutter, mix together 1/2 cup flour, 1/2
cup sugar and butter until evenly distributed and crumbly in texture.
Sprinkle over apples.
Put pie in the oven on a cookie sheet to catch the juices that may spill
over. Bake 45 minutes.
Warm weather means our gardens and landscapes are growing fast.
Here are some tasks to keep your landscape beautiful and productive:
Flowers: Time to plant summer blooming perennials and annuals
including plumbago, zinnias, angelonia, purslane, lobularia,
sunflowers, yellow bells, pride of Barbados, duranta and bat-faced
cuphea.
Vegetables: May is a great time to plant, from seed or nursery plants,
okra, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, winter squash, pumpkins, basil,
peppers, lima beans, eggplant, garlic chives and Malabar greens. If
you don’t want to dedicate an area of your yard, consider planting
here and there in your flowerbeds. Edible landscaping is a popular
new trend!
Lawns: Water 1/2 to 1” of irrigation per week. A rain gauge or straight
sided container (such as a tuna fish can) will help you know how long
to run your irrigation system to apply 1/2”.
Weeding: Hand pull or hoe weeds while they are still young or better
yet, maintain a 3” layer of mulch in all vegetable and flowerbeds to
deter weeds from getting a start.
Pruning: Remove spent blooms on spring and summer annuals to
promote new blooms.
Fertilizing: Fertilize flowerbeds and vegetable gardens w/slow release
organic fertilizer.
Water: Deep soakings between rain events is better than frequent
light sprinkling.
Birds: Spring migration continues until mid-May. Clean bird feeders!
Replace water in bird baths to avoid creating mosquito breeding
spots.
