Speeding in Lone Oak has been a hot topic of discussion lately. There have
been numerous reports of speeding and of running stop signs. We have
notified the Sheriff of these reports and have asked that tickets be issued
to offenders. Several surrounding schools and residents have purchased
kid alert safety signs to be placed in front of their homes and or buildings
to remind people to slow down. If you would like to purchase a safety

Trash Pick-Up Days
Wednesdays and Saturdays are the Lone Oak scheduled trash pickup
days. Please do not set your garbage out early. We continue to see
many residents put trash out 2-3 days before trash day. Please keep your
garbage out of sight until the night before or the day of the scheduled pick
up. Also, please be courteous and do not block the sidewalks with your
bags and or trash bins and remove them in a timely manner after pick up.

STUDENT TRANSFER FORMS FOR
2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR AVAILABLE
The Board of Trustees approved a recommendation for 38 CFISD
campuses to be open for student transfers for the 2019-2020 school year,
with student transfer forms made available online and at campuses
beginning April 1 st . The following campuses were approved for a limited
number of student transfers for the 2019-2020 school year:
HIGH SCHOOL:
Bridgeland, Cy-Fair, Cypress Creek, Cypress Falls, Cypress Park, Cypress
Ranch, Cypress Springs and Langham Creek.
MIDDLE SCHOOL:
Campbell, Goodson, Hopper, Kahla and Labay.
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:
Adam andre’, Bane, Copeland, Danish, Duryea, Farney, Frazier, Gleason,
Hairgrove, Hoover (grades PK-2), Jowell (grades 3-5), Keith, Kirk, Lamkin,
Lee, Metcalf, Moore, Reed, Rennell, Sampson, Tipps, Walker, Wells and
Willbern.
A student who is currently enrolled and attending a CFISD campus may
apply for an Open Transfer Request for the 2019-2020 school year. The
Office of Student Services/Admissions will accept transfer requests from
April 1 st through June 3 rd . Transfer requests will be processed on a firstcome,
first-served basis. For questions or assistance, please contact the

ATHLETIC PHYSICAL DATES UPCOMING
FOR 2019-2020 STUDENT ATHLETES
CFISD has scheduled its annual athletic physical examinations for the
2019-2020 school year at every district high school for incoming high
school students as well as sixth- and seventh-grade middle school
students. Physical forms must be completed in advance and turned in
along with payment at the respective high schools. Updated physical
forms, along with other pertinent 2018-2019 athletic information, are
available on the athletics page of the district website.
Examination cost will be $20 per student (cash or money order only). All
current and incoming high school students enrolled in CFISD schools
may attend examinations at the following sites:

Exchange Student HOSTING FAQs
What does hosting mean? Hosting means you open your heart and
home to a teenager from another country. You provide the same loving,
caring environment for them as you do a member of your own family.
What kinds of families are acceptable? We accept many types of
families: single parent families, families with children of any age, childless
families and families with grown children.
What is the host family responsible for? The host family is responsible of
providing three meals a day, registering the student in school, a separate
bed and a quiet place to study. The STSF local LC will obtain the signed
school acceptance form prior to the student’s arrive to the country.
What happens if the student is ill or in an accident? Our students have
their own medical insurance. Each student should have an ID card and
claim forms before they arrive. STSF will help with the filing of claims.
What about spending money? The student’s natural parents agree
to send adequate spending money. This money should be enough for
clothing, social activities, trips, school expenses and telephone calls to
their home country. Ideally, students will already have a bank account
when they come over that they can access with an ATM card. Host Families
can also assist their students in setting up savings or teen account.
Are we supposed to show them America? Trips are organized and
available to the students through their Regional Directors or through
an STSF approved travel organization. Keep in mind that this is an
academic program with opportunities for travel for students who are
meeting academic standards. RDs also sponsor trips for students. More
information about these trips will be given throughout the year.
What is expected of the exchange student? Our students are here on
an academic program. This means, they must attend all of their classes,
participate in class and maintain at least a C or above in each class. The
student has an orientation that explains the rules they agree to abide by. These
include obeying all local, state and federal laws. They may be immediately
dismissed from the program and sent home for violation of these laws. They
are expected to follow host family rules concerning family responsibilities
such as chores. They must also obey curfews established by the host family.
What is the length of stay? Most of our students arrive in August for a
10 month academic stay. They must return to their home country 7 to 10
days after the last day of school. These are a few students who only come
for a semester. Some arrive in January and stay until December. How
do you match students to Host Families? We try to find students whose
hobbies and interest match the family members. We look for common
interest in the arts, sports and religious involvement. The host Family
may request a student from a country they have special interest in. We
try and match as much as possible to ensure a successful experience.
Are Host Families paid to host? No, but host families receive a $50
tax deduction (Charitable Contribution) per month for each month the
students live with you.
What are the rewards of hosting? Your family gains a new family
member. The relationship that evolves throughout your year as a host
parent will last a lifetime. The focus of this program is to have host
families and students learn from each other.

One of the largest non-celebrity tournaments in the Houston area, the
B.F. Adam Golf Classic is a prime example of our trustees and community
business partners working together to raise scholarship funds for
students of Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. Our first tournament raised $3,500
and over the past 30 years the B. F. Adam Golf Classic has successfully
raised almost $3.5M.
CFEF was established in 1970 as a non-profit to raise money to fund
scholarships for high school graduates. Through the generosity of the
Cy-Fair community and commitment from the Board of Trustees, the
Foundation has grown tremendously with scholarship awards totaling
more than $8.5M to graduating seniors from Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. CFEF
is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, all contributions are tax deductible,
as allowed by the law.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL AT
EPIPHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH - ROAR!
Join us June 10 th -14 th from 9 AM-12:30 PM for a fabulous week of Vacation
Bible School fun as we learn that life is WILD, but God is GOOD! ROAR
Vacation Bible School is for all children ages 3 years old (must be pottytrained)
through entering 5 th grade! We offer a longer VBS day because we
just can’t pack it all in to a mere 3 hours! The youth will travel through age
appropriate stations including Bible Adventures, Music, Snacks, Kid Vid
Cinema, Outdoor Games and our wild and crazy Imagination Station where
they do fun science experiments that they can take home with them daily!

Gadgets, daily snacks, Bible Memory Buddies, fun take home gifts and a

ST. AIDAN’S SETS SUMMER VBS
Believe it or not, it’s time to start thinking about Vacation Bible School
again and the folks at St. Aidan’s have another great program planned.
Scheduled for the week of July 8 th -12 th , St. Aidan’s usually hosts about 80
children. This year’s theme is ROAR: Life is wild. God is Good. We usually
have Bahama Bucks on the last day. That is always a big treat for our
students. And, last year, we hosted Wild Things Zoofari. They brought
a wallaby, a toucan, a lemur and a hedgehog. Everyone really enjoyed
that.” Cost of VBS is $30. Scholarships are available for families in-need.
New for this year, we are adding Triumph Sports so our students will
have a full-day option. From 12-4 PM, Triumph will run a Bible-based
sports camp. Participants will play dodgeball, kickball, capture the flag,
basketball, soccer and more. Early registration for this afternoon session
is $105 before June 1 st . After June 1 st , cost goes up to $115. Registration

CAMP CORNERSTONE IS THE PLACE TO BE THIS SUMMER
FOR AGES 2 THROUGH COMPLETION OF 4TH GRADE!
Camp Cornerstone is a week-long camp sponsored by Cornerstone United
Methodist Church and is for children ages 2 through the completion of 4 th
grade. Children must be 2 by June 1, 2019. Camp hours are 9:30 AM-1
PM. There are 3 sessions throughout the summer and you are invited to
participate in any or all!
Session I: “Stars & Stripes” is June 17 th -21 st , Session II: “Around
the World” is July 15 th -19 th , Session III: “Outer Space” is August
5 th -9 th . The cost per camp per child is $125 and is due at the time of
registration. To download a form from the Cornerstone website, go to
www.cornerstoneumc.org and click on “Ministries” and then select
“Preschool.” You will see a tab for Camp Cornerstone. Print the form and
have it filled out before you arrive, saving yourself time! Before each
camp session begins, you will hear from your child’s teacher so you can
learn more about the camp and they will answer questions about the
week-long fun. Each day your child will bring a backpack and a lunch
as they enjoy each other and the special things they will do during the
week. We look forward to having your child at camp this summer! It’s a
great time for everyone and you don’t want to miss any of it! Registration
will continue through May 2, 2019 or until camp classes are full. Once
camp classes are full a wait list will be started. Please call the preschool

SUMMER CAMPS AT EPIPHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH & SCHOOL
Registration is now underway for our Summer Camps. We offer a variety
of 5 different mini-day camps for children ages 3 years (must be potty
trained) through entering 1st grade. These fun camps keep your younger
kids very busy while reinforcing concepts that they have learned in school!
All camps are filled with age appropriate learning disguised as fun!
This year our camps are themed after the youth’s favorite Disney movies!
All camps are Tuesday through Thursday, 9 AM-2 PM. We will also offer a
50 minute dance class on Tuesday’s from 2-2:50 PM weekly for those who
may want a little extra time! On week 1, we learn It’s A Small World After
All! On week 2, we are getting ready for some Monster Mayhem! Week 3
is for all our little STEM-tastic learners as we head into Wreck It/Race It
week. Week 4 we will beat the heat with some island style fun with water.
Our 5 th camp is going to be, shall we say, INCREDIBLE…as we end the
summer with a super hero theme.
Each camp is $100 and includes a daily snack. Campers will bring a
peanut-free lunch daily. All camps include science, math, art, movement,
music and creative play with both indoor and outdoor activities. A
minimum payment of $25 is required at the time of registration to hold
your child’s spot with the balance being paid no later than the first day of
camp. We will not hold camps on the week of July 4 th or the week of July

Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 (must be in kindergarten) through 18 who are willing to accept the Girl Scout Promise and law. Copper Creek
Meadows Community serves girls in the residence areas for the elementary schools listed below, as well as the corresponding middle and high

Here are just a few activities that we have done within
the community recently: In December, we hosted a
community Holiday event for Girl Scouts and moms of all
levels. During the event we had lots of activities involving
the moms and daughters of which included making pet
toys to donate to a local animal shelter.
Cadette troop 113035 went to Special Pals on Saturday
4/9/19 and donated the hand-made pet toys along with
some of the wish list items from their organization and
a case of Girl Scout cookies for the hard workers and
volunteers! In February our community celebrated World
Thinking Day to promote changing the world for the better
and to celebrate being part of the global sisterhood that
is Girl Scouts. Our troops have also volunteered their time
and troop funds for community needs, participated in a
self-defense workshop, numerous badge work at both
troop and regional level, STEM activities, enjoyed the Girl
Scout camp properties and much more.

BOY SCOUT TROOP 609
Boy Scout Troop 609 is a specialized for Boys with high functioning
Autism Spectrum Disorders. They meet at the Westview School on the 1 st
and 3 rd Saturday of the month from 9:30-11:30 AM.
BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA - COPPERHEAD DISTRICT
For 100 years, Scouting programs have instilled in youth the values found
in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Today, these values are just as relevant
in helping youth grow to their full potential as they were in 1910. Scouting
helps youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership
skills, outdoor skills and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives.
The Boy Scouts of America provides youth with programs and activities
that allow them to:
• Try new things.
• Provide service to others.
• Build self-confidence.
• Reinforce ethical standards.
Scouting provides youth with a sense that they are important as
individuals while promoting activities that lead to personal responsibility
and high self-esteem. As a result, when hard decisions have to be made,
peer pressure can be resisted and the right choices can be made.
Scouting provides a rewarding experience for boys ages 5 to 21. Scouting
through the local Packs and Troops teach outdoor and life skills which help
our youth Be Prepared. Your area is serviced by the BSA Sam Houston Area
Counsel - Copperhead District which includes 23 Cub Scout Packs (boys 5
to 10 years old), 13 Troops (boys from 11 to 18 years old) and 10 Venturing
units (boys and girls from 14 to 21). Our Units typically meet weekly.
Many of our units are supported by the local Elementary Schools
including: Birkes, Copeland, Duryea, Fiest, Hemmingway, Holmsley,
Horne, Jowell, Lowery, Metcalf, Owens, Postma, Robinson, Sheridan,
Tipps, Walker and Wilson.
Other Community groups include: Autumn Creek Baptist Church,
Beck and Masten Automotive, Cornerstone United Methodist Church,
Copperfield Church, Crossbridge Church, Cy-Fair Kiwanis Club, Deerfield
Village HOA, LDS Bear Creek and Copperfield Wards, Middlegate Village
HOA, Peace Community Church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church

Flag Day Celebration - June 15, 2019, 6-8 PM
The Cy-Fair community is encouraged to come out and join our local
scouts to learn all about the history of Flag Day in the US. Observe while
the scouts perform the retirement of Old glory by properly disposing of
the US flags. This event is jointly sponsored by Lowery Pack 1445 and
Langham Creek Ace Hardware.
We encourage all Copperhead District Packs, Troops and Ship units to
come and participate. We also welcome all Eagle Scouts, local military
veterans, both active and retired, to come join in the festivities. We will
honor all of our heroes, as well as first responders from the police and
Cy-Fair fire department. This patriotic event promises to be filled with
excitement for the young and old. We will have local entertainment,

shooting, hiking, first aid, wilderness survival, community service,
citizenship, swimming, leadership, white-water rafting and much more.
Troop 61 camps each month and has a group that goes to High Adventure

Recipes & Gardening Tips
You could make this on National Apple Pie Day May 13th!
INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tablespoons cold milk
1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
6 Fuji apples, cored and sliced
3/4 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
To Make Crust: In a large bowl, mix together 1 1/2 cups flour, oil, milk,
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar and salt until evenly blended. Pat mixture into
a 9 inch pie pan, spreading the dough evenly over the bottom and up
sides. Crimp edges of the dough around the perimeter.
To Make Filling: Mix together 3/4 cup sugar, 3 tablespoons flour,
cinnamon and nutmeg. Sprinkle over apples and toss to coat. Spread
evenly in unbaked pie shell.
To Make Topping: Using a pastry cutter, mix together 1/2 cup flour, 1/2
cup sugar and butter until evenly distributed and crumbly in texture.
Sprinkle over apples.
Put pie in the oven on a cookie sheet to catch the juices that may spill
over. Bake 45 minutes.

Cheesecake Day May 26th!
INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
3 tablespoons white sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 cup white sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1 (8 ounce) tub frozen whipped topping, thawed
3 cups frozen blueberries
DIRECTIONS:
In a medium bowl, stir together the graham cracker crumbs and 3
tablespoons of sugar. Mix in the melted butter. Sprinkle evenly into
the bottom of a 9 inch square baking dish and pack down into a
solid crust.
In a large bowl, beat cream cheese with 1 cup of sugar until smooth.
Stir in salt and lemon juice. Fold in the whipped topping until well
blended, then fold in the frozen blueberries. Spoon over the crust
in the baking dish and spread evenly. Cover with plastic wrap and
refrigerate for at least 1 hour before slicing into squares and serving.

Warm weather means our gardens and landscapes are growing fast.
Here are some tasks to keep your landscape beautiful and productive:
Flowers: Time to plant summer blooming perennials and annuals
including plumbago, zinnias, angelonia, purslane, lobularia,
sunflowers, yellow bells, pride of Barbados, duranta and bat-faced
cuphea.
Vegetables: May is a great time to plant, from seed or nursery plants,
okra, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, winter squash, pumpkins, basil,
peppers, lima beans, eggplant, garlic chives and Malabar greens. If
you don’t want to dedicate an area of your yard, consider planting
here and there in your flowerbeds. Edible landscaping is a popular
new trend!
Lawns: Water 1/2 to 1” of irrigation per week. A rain gauge or straight
sided container (such as a tuna fish can) will help you know how long
to run your irrigation system to apply 1/2”.
Weeding: Hand pull or hoe weeds while they are still young or better
yet, maintain a 3” layer of mulch in all vegetable and flowerbeds to
deter weeds from getting a start.
Pruning: Remove spent blooms on spring and summer annuals to
promote new blooms.
Fertilizing: Fertilize flowerbeds and vegetable gardens w/slow release
organic fertilizer.
Water: Deep soakings between rain events is better than frequent
light sprinkling.
Birds: Spring migration continues until mid-May. Clean bird feeders!
Replace water in bird baths to avoid creating mosquito breeding
spots.
