God Wants To Be With You
Homily by: Fr. Joel Rescober
Gospel Reading from:John 21:1-14
The disciples were saddened of
Jesus’ death. They felt empty and
got back to fishing. Despite being
real fishermen, they didn’t have
a catch until Jesus showed up to
them.
Often, we are like them when
we are heartbroken, we mess up
with the stuff we used to do. And
when we put God in the picture,
somehow, things are alright.
God wants to be with us. He wants
to become our friend regardless
of our sins. He saved us because
He loves us, and all He wants is
our love. If we become friends
with Jesus, we can pass through
our challenges, and we can be
Easter people and share His love to
others.
“Noong ma-encounter ni Jesus
ang mga alagad Niya, hindi nila
sila pinagalitan. He renewed His
friendship with them. And now
He’s friends with them forever.”
—Fr. Joel Rescober
Breaking Bad: Rise Up
from Bad Habits
“Good thing that the story did
not end on Good Friday. We
are not just celebrating the
resurrection of God on Easter.
We are celebrating you rising
up!”
— Kuya Lep Sumera
“Always remember that Jesus is
risen, and we will rise with the Lord
over all our problems and concerns.”
— Doc Ryan Capitulo
St. Peter was fake, proud,
impulsive and violent. He
denied Jesus three times.
His imperfections didn’t
cancel his calling. In a
sense, he was like Judas, but
what set them apart was St.
Peter ran after Jesus when
Judas ran away. St. Peter
chose to get real with his
imperfections, and let Jesus
love him regardless of his
limitations.
This Easter, may we be
reminded that when Jesus
resurrected from the dead
and conquered the grave,
He also won over our
bad habits. Easter is the
foundation of our Catholic
Faith. His death and
resurrection are our source
of hope that whatever pain
we feel right now, it’s not
going to end the same.
Victory is promised.
Every Easter Sunday, we
renew our vows in our
baptism as Catholics, and
whenever we do, we are
born again, the way we
have been since baptism.
Being born again is being
born above. It means that
however we try to get
our lives together and no
matter how hard we try to
be righteous, we cannot
change, progress into His
plans or restart our lives by
ourselves.
We need God. Because
of His love, He gave
Jesus to us to give us
victory through His
resurrection. And this
made all the
difference.
My Easter Story
I FAILED THE BOARD EXAM
By: Rosevie M. Tan
I thought I would have a smooth-sailing life, but then I failed
my pharmacist licensure exam last year. And here’s why I think I
didn’t make it:
I TOOK MY REVIEW FOR GRANTED.
I didn’t give extra effort in studying. Every after review, I wouldn’t
scan my notes anymore. First, because the review was really
tiring. Second, because back then, I kept thinking, “I still have
time.”
(I realized that I should’ve used my time well by doing things
before it was too late.)
I WAS OVERWHELMED BY DOUBT, FEAR, AND PRESSURE.
Who wouldn’t be, right? Perhaps, everyone who’s about to take
the board exam would feel afraid. But I was overwhelmed back
then. I am the first born, so I felt pressured to do well so that I
would be able to help and provide for my family.
DURING THE EXAM, I LET MY EMOTIONS GET THE BEST
OF ME.
While answering, I felt helpless that I cried and had a breakdown
after. Different negative thoughts came to my mind, so I wasn’t
able to focus on my exam.
(I realized that worrying isn’t helpful. It’s toxic and is a thief of
peace.)
in preparing for it, and trusted God’s perfect plan for my life.
Last year, after the exam, my prayer was for my family and me to
have a heart to accept whatever the result would be.
This year, I prayed to have His peace in my heart.
Last year, while answering, I cried because I didn’t know the
answer.
This year, while answering, I cried because God provided the
answers even to the questions that I really didn’t know how to
answer!
Last year, I cried because of fear and hopelessness.
This year, I cried because I felt really blessed after the exam. I felt
that God was with me all throughout, from the beginning till the
end.
My prayers changed, and the Lord intervened. This time, I passed
my pharmacist licensure exam! How amazing our God is!
It took faith to trust God after all the challenges that happened.
It took faith to conquer doubt and fear.
It took faith to try again.
And it is in knowing who Jesus is and what He is capable of doing
to have faith.
But God changed me through that challenging season.
He changed me from the inside out. I learned to lean on
Him and have faith in His timing. I acknowledged what
I did wrong, committed myself not to do the same
mistakes, and tried for the second time. I did my best
There’s peace coming from placing our confidence in God
and holding on to His promises. Because He is a big and
capable God. He is forever faithful. By the grace of God,
I am now Rosevie M. Tan, RPh.
