My sensorial project engages the
viewer's proprioceptive, their visual
and auditory senses, through the
simultation of two juxtaposing
environments; a war-town home and a
domestic home. It is an exploration of
the contrasting effects fire can have
on a person's sensorial and emotional
The viewer will walk in to a 10 by 10 ft
diorama of a war-torn room, in which
the environment will be adjusted to be
significantly colder than the outside
environment, and the lighting will
reflect within the walls a bluish hue.
Beyond the walls of the diorama, the
viewer will embark on a warmer, more
comforting sensual journey offered
by the largely projected fireplace,
and the warmer temperature.
experience - by using a subwoofer to
project a lound, base-heavy sound
of a bomb going off in three, one
hour intervals, whilst projecting on
the wall a moving image of a fire
place in a typical domestic home,
with the sounds of the crackling
logs playing in the background.
Oxford University conducted an
experiment with sensory architects
Condiment Junkie for the marketing
research of a scotch whiskey brand,
The Singleton, where groups of people
would enter three rooms with unique
environments designed to stimulate
a specific sense and in turn, dictate
how the viewer would taste the beer.
One group, which entered a room with
a 'fruity' theme accompanied by a red
color scheme, had found the drink to
taste 13 percent sweeter, whilst another
wood-panelled room, accompanied
by the sound of a crackling
fire, resulted in the subjects
enjoying the drink up to 15 percent
more than in the other rooms.

two Australian architects collaborated
to create a soundscape installation
that would represent how everyday
sounds from our environment
would sound to someone with with
alzheimers disease. The purpose of
the work is to allow us to empathize
with people who suffer dementia, by
designing purposefully disorienting
and unsettling sound edits using
familiar sounds. The response of
the viewer dictates how those who
suffer the dementia perceive these
familiar sounds in a way that is
unfamiliar to them, thus impacting
them emotionally and mentally.
