Where can you study that? It sounds simple. However,
make sure you know the standing of the
faculty and what it can offer.
Do you need to stay there? Accommodation is suddenly
also a problem. Get to know how to run your
life outside of the ‘nest’ at home. You might end up with
two challenges: the study and the private life. One challenge
is enough!
All of these things can be done well in advance. This is basic research and
it needs to be done.
Then Open-Day. This is the golden opportunity to talk to real people from
the specific university. There will typically also be students at Open-
Day occasions. This is the chance to get the feel for what this institution is
all about. On top of: if there should be representatives from your faculty of
choice you can be very specific.
Look at the brochures. It gives the chance to see what it looks like. Get the
feel for the ‘spirit’ of the place.
Take a friend or a parent along. Their impression might be different to
yours and a second opinion is a good idea.
Go there! Even if you live next to Beit Bridge and you want to study at
UCT, well, find the money and go there. Remember: university will take
some years of your time and the Open-Day may give you the info needed for
making the right choice.
