DAY 2
After breakfast at the hotel, we will depart for the middle of the world
citadel, located 40 minutes to the north of Quito, right at the Equator. In
the citadel, we will witness some special and fun experiments, which can
only be performed on the Equator, and we will also visit the Intiñan
museum, which has many interactive activities for children and shows the
indigenous cultures that inhabited this area. We will enjoy lunch at a local
restaurant and then return to Quito, where our first stop in the afternoon
will be a visit to the Basilica, an imposing church where is possible to climb
to the towers for amazing views of the city. We will then continue to the
Yacu Museum. Yacu means water in Quechua, and this museum has many
interactive expositions to teach children and adults alike the cycle of water
and the importance of it for all life on our planet. We end the day with a
nice dinner in la Ronda, the first street of the city. Before dinner, we will
have some time to browse the shops of this historical street, now closed to
traffic. Among the shops, we find chocolate cafeterias, a candle factory, a
store specialized in honey and bee products, and a classic toy store, where
all the toys are made of carved wood. During dinner, we will also hear
about the local stories and the famous legends of Quito.
