The Aussie
Well it’s countdown now isn’t it…and not to Christmas – the
Party in the Park?
Chris
Yes its Thursday 27 June. And we know that this is not an easy
day for our supporters in full ?me employment and who have
families. But Windsor rotates the days, so everyone has a
weekday at some ?me. Next year it looks like it will be a Sunday.
The Aussie
How is the planning coming a long?
Chris
The schedules have been sent by email and some were
distributed at a Championship Show. If you haven’t received
your copy yet – let me know asap. There has been interest from
newcomers to the breed and to showing and this is very exci?ng
for us. We have offered some advance training and guidance
and if you haven’t contacted me yet, please do so and we can
organise something for you.
The Aussie
Will the format be the same?
Chris
That is the plan, why change something that seems to work
well. To remind everyone, the Aussies will be judged as part of
the Windsor Championship Show. Then once that is over, we
will be allocated a ring and we can begin the Southern Coun?es
Australian Terrier event. It will begin with the tradi?onal Pimms
– a SCATC show is not party in the park without it! Then the
members’ buffet, followed by the Judging. This year we are
delighted that Peter Young has agreed to be our judge. He has
had a long term interest in our breed.
The Aussie
This event is very important to the Club?
Chris
Yes it is. It is a chance for us to put Aussies in the limelight.
GePng everyone there with their dogs, whether they are being
shown or just want to come for a day out to meet other Aussies
is very important to help our breed. Most years we have a great
turnout and many fellow exhibitors and judges have rarely seen
so many Aussies in same place at the same ?me. Sadly at the
moment our numbers are in decline and we have to push hard
to ensure we retain a sustainable level of Aussies in the UK. All
of us who care about Aussies have to do our bit for the breed.

The Club gets involved with other ways to help
Chris
Yes, we do all that is possible. Much relies on the
goodwill of owners with their Aussies. Every year we are
really pleased at the help we get and the ?me, money
and dedica?on that Aussie owners put into doing their
bit. If everyone does a liUle, well it soon mounts up.
The Aussie
This year we are gePng a few clashes at events where
we need to raise people’s awareness of the breed,
which is making things more complicated.
Chris
You are right, this year Discover Dogs is going to clash
with a Championship Dog Show. This will certainly make
life challenging for us and we need support from
everyone. We want to support the Aussie classes at the
London and Home Coun?es Terrier Club, but this as
usual clashes with the Sandringham Game Fair. The
change of day for the Bath Championship dog show
meant it clashed with the Burghley Game Fair. These are
just a couple of instances. So please if you would like to
do your bit to help the breed, do contact me. And don't
think we only want show dogs to be the breed
representa?ves. Most people are not looking for a show
dog, they want a companion. So if you don’t show your
Aussie, you are exactly who the visitors want to see and
want to chat to. So come on volunteers. Everyone who
does it seems to have fun.

Aussie owners who came to the Thame Game Fair
seemed to enjoy themselves.

Absolutely. Owners rarely meet another Aussie and it
was fun to see the Aussies gePng together and having a
great ?me playing and the owners chaPng away
sharing informa?on and knowledge. Our Facebook page
was really buzzing a\erwards.

That’s the goal isn’t it – of trying to get all the Aussies
and their owners together and enjoying their day out
