What are human rights?
Human rights are the basic rights and freedoms that belong to
every person in the world, from birth until death. They apply
regardless of where you are from, what you believe or how you
choose to live your life.
They can never be taken away, although they can sometimes be
restricted – for example if a person breaks the law, or in the
interests of national security.
Classification
Importance
1. CLASSIC AND SOCIAL RIGHTS
2. CIVIL, POLITICAL, ECONOMIC,
CULTURAL RIGHTS
3. FUNDAMENTAL AND BASIC
RIGHTS
They represent the foundation of
existence and intellectual development as
human beings and they assure their active
involvement as citizens. Those rights are
based on the desire of humans to live in a
world in which dignity and wellness of
each one are protected and respected.
What about European Union?
The goal of European Union,
regarding human rights, is to offer
protection and to assure that every
country has it’s own rights respected.
• RIGHT TO LIFE
• The right to life is a moral
principle based on the belief
that a human has the right to
live and, in particular, should
not be killed by another
human being.
Violatings of the
right to life:
• capital punishment
• war
• justifiable homicide
• euthanasia
• abortion
• right to choose
• abortion-right supporters
• personal autonomy and selfdetermination
of humans
beings over their own bodies
• pro-life movements: Antiabortion
movement, the
march for life
FREEDOM OF SPEECH
• Nowadays, there is a struggle about
saying one s opinion because most
people might feel offended.
• You have to weigh, measure, judge
the things you say. You also need to
be ferm and to overcome your ego.
• Don't underestimate the power of
your speech, as it can generate either
order or chaos.
The majority of people associate the
term "game" with the term
"children".
People tend to make this
association because of the
fact that adults choose to
use theit free time in other
ways than to spend it
playing.
Great companies
have taken into
account the
importance of
recreation for the
employees and
they have
created special
places which
promote
relaxation in work
hours to lead to
the company's
productivity
growth.
Not only we have the right to play , it is also very important that this
activity is a priority in our lives!
Everyone has the right to play, the right to be happy :D
• THE RIGHT TO BE INVOLVED
The violation of the right to be involved = discrimination
Discrimination is a different
treatment between two or
more persons which are
basically in the same situation,
without any objective
justification.
• disabilities
• religion
• sex
• political affiliation
• race, ethnicity, nationality
• language
• medical condition
• age
• or others of this type.
Direct discrimination and indirect one
can be based on criteria’s like:
1. Direct discrimination based on
disability
2. Indirect discrimination
An ad for a job, but the
job requires a higher
educational degree. This
condition basically
excludes different
categories of candidates.
Effects of discrimination
• low performance
• lack of motivation
• lack of involvement
• feeling guilty
• lack of self confidence
• no integration in the
working group
• or leaving the
organization
Are human rights respected in Romania ?
The human rights are generally respected, but there are still some issues that need
to be fixed such as:
Right to life: the violation of this right brings Romania to the top of the countries
with the highest rate of abortion.
Effects:
Out of 1000 child births, 480 are aborted (1/3 of the conceived children are aborted).
Solutions:
Building more orphanages with special treatments for the unwanted children, financial
support for those in need, free counseling, support groups.
Right to be involved
Right to be equal
The violating of these rights lead some
minorities from Romania ( such as Roma
people/gypsies, more than 3 million) to have
some gaps in their development.
Effects:
- 40% of Roma people live below the poverty live
- discrimination, regarding access to education, certain jobs and health and social
services are often restricted
Solutions:
Reducing the budget for education, therefore every one could afford being educated.
Children from Romania
Romania, having recently joined the European Union, must take further steps
to respect the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Many Romanians are
forced to live in poverty without the opportunity to enjoy all of their rights.
The mentalities from Romania make it harder for our country to evolve
because some of the population prefer to stay as they are, keeping their old
customs and their environment even though is not a healthy one.
Main problems faced by children in Romania:
• Poverty- The children live in difficult conditions where access to health, education,
etc. are compromised.
• Child labour - The poverty prevalent in rural villages forces many children to work.
• Child abuse- Many types of bad treatment towards children have been identified in
Romania. These can take different forms: psychological, physical or sexual.
• No official identity- Children are not always registered at birth in Romania=The
situation and the development of these children can be very limited, since, without
identity, access to public services such as education, health, etc. can be very difficult.
Even though we are facing these problems, our country is working on fixing
them by introducing projects which are based on collecting funds for poor
children, investing in their future:
• The “Save the Children” Association managed to raise record-breaking funds
for programs that support the education offered to children in Romania.
• The School-after-School Program (SAS) is a complementary program to the
compulsory school curriculum that offers formal and non-formal learning
opportunities
