Introducing the Money & Pensions
Service
by Carl Melvin, Affluent Financial Planning Ltd
The government has created a new service called The Money & Pensions
Service (MAPS) to offer guidance on debt, pensions and other fi nancial
matters to consumers. It has brought together the functions of the Money
Advice Service, The Pensions Advisory Service and Pension Wise into a
single body to create a single point of contact for guidance.
This change follows several reports that were critical of the Money Advice
Service and duplication between the above bodies. Economic secretary to
the Treasury Simon Kirby said: “We strongly believe that creating one public
guidance body is the best way of making it as easy as possible for people to
access the help they need to get their financial questions answered.”
The service was launched in April 2019 and will be consulting with
stakeholders in the next 6 months to develop an integrated service to
the public. A national strategy will be launched in Autumn this year.
Further information can be found at the temporary website https://
singlefinancialguidancebody.org.uk/
It is important to understand that MAPS offer guidance – not advice. It
provides information for consumers to access. Only a regulated adviser can
provide financial advice and if you use the services of a regulated adviser
you will enjoy the investor protections that exist to protect consumers from
poor advice.
So, before you consider taking regulated advice you may want to check out
MAPS for free impartial information and guidance.
This information is not financial advice. If you require advice you should
consult a professional adviser. The first meeting is normally free and
there is no obligation. Call us for a FREE financial review on 01505 59
offi ce opposite Amaretto restaurant on Main Street, Bridge of Weir. www.
