Next deadline - Friday 19th July Gryffe Advertizer | www.advertizer.co.uk FINANCE & tech Clyde Judo Club 34 Clyde Judo Club (www.clydejudo.org.uk) meets in various locations across Renfrewshire and is dedicated to the pursuit of Judo – the “Gentle Way”. Children and young adults from the age of 6 -18 are welcome. The club (which is non-profi t) teaches children Judo skills and techniques Trains the children to pass the national grading tests Supports those children who wish to enter Judo competitions Your 1st session is free and the times are listed in the ‘Regular Meets Section’ Over the past month the club has been busy travelling around the UK and Europe. In May we had 2 players competing in the Jamie McDonald Memorial in Cardiff, and were pleased to return home with 3 medals, Glen in the u12 getting a bronze and his mum, Jaqui, getting a Gold in both Seniors and Masters. Then it was back home to Motherwell, for the Scottish Mini Mons, a development competition for younger players, and we had 2 successes there, Glen, winning Silver and Alex taking a 5th place in a hard group. The week after, 6 of the club’s more experienced players went to Venray in Holland to compete, and returned with a set of medals Fraser - Gold, Glen – Silver, David – Bronze. Then was the turn of the Scottish team, and we had 7 players in Luxemburg, and again, a good return in medals, Jessie – Gold, Fraser- Silver, Rachel – Silver, Matthew - Bronze, and Andrew – Bronze. In August this year our club will be 10 years old, and we are planning a day of celebration on the 17th August at Bishopton Community Centre. Kilmacolm Golf Club Ladies Thursday 13th June was our Ladies Captains Day. The “weather gods” were shining on our Ladies Captain Day with no sign of the forecasted rain. With perfect golf conditions and a course in great shape there was plenty of impressive golf being played. 40 Ladies played in the 18 hole Greensome Stableford competition followed by a delicious afternoon tea. 12 Ladies played in the 9 hole stableford late morning and early evening too. Congratulations to the Winners: Cherry Briggs and Tricia Kellock with an impressive 44 points closely followed by Sandra Macdougall and Maura Whyte with 42 points. Anabel Kane won the longest drive on the 14th and Shelagh Palmer was the closest to the pin on the 17th. The 9 hole completion was won by Fiona Laidlaw with 20 points, closely followed by Dilys La Thangue with 18 points. Lesley Handley won the longest drive on the 5th and Clair Barclay was closest to the pin on the 2nd. Very well played Ladies! Thank you to our Lady Captain, Rosemary Hammond for a super day of golf, afternoon tea and fi lm night. It has brought together the functions of the Money Advice Service, The Pensions Advisory Service and Pension Wise into a single body to create a single point of contact for guidance. This change follows several reports that were critical of the Money Advice Service and duplication between the above bodies. Economic secretary to the Treasury Simon Kirby said: “We strongly believe that creating one public guidance body is the best way of making it as easy as possible for people to access the help they need to get their financial questions answered.” The service was launched in April 2019 and will be consulting with stakeholders in the next 6 months to develop an integrated service to the public. A national strategy will be launched in Autumn this year. e: info@advertizer.co.uk | t: 01505 613340 July 2019 Scottish charities scoop share of £1million fund Thirty-six charities based in Scotland have been awarded donations of £1,000 each as part of the Movement For Good awards, following overwhelming public support. The Movement for Good was set up by specialist insurer Ecclesiastical and will see £1million given to charities across the UK this summer. Amazingly, nearly 100,000 people nominated causes close to their hearts, with 500 awards of £1,000 available for donation - in Scotland more than 6,800 kindhearted residents voted for over 400 charities across the country. Moving On (Inverclyde) and The Underheugh Ark in Gourock are among the local charities set to benefit from the money, following overwhelming public support. Thanking supporters in Scotland, Mark Hews, Group CEO of Ecclesiastical, said: “We have seen a fantastic public response to our Movement for Good awards. It’s clear that people care deeply about good causes in their region. We know that £1,000 can make a huge difference to the incredible work that charities do and we’re looking forward to seeing how this fi nancial boost will change lives for the better.” For further information on the Movement for Good Awards and for a full list of winning charities, visit: www.ecclesiastical.com/movement-for-good Calculation of Holiday Pay for Workers by Dallas McMillan, Solicitors There has been much litigation in recent years regarding what pay is properly payable by employers to their workers when on holiday. The current position is:- • Employees/workers (not the self-employed) are entitled to a minimum of 28 days paid annual leave (20 days minimum under European law, plus a further minimum 8 days under UK legislation). • Employees/workers do not use up any annual holiday entitlement whilst on sick leave or maternity leave. • Annual holidays unused at end of year because of lengthy sick/maternity leave roll over into next holiday year (max of 20 days). • To calculate holiday pay due, Courts/Tribunals analyse the worker’s “normal” net pay in the 12 weeks immediately before the holiday. • Where the worker’s “normal pay” comprises basic pay plus additional elements, these extra payments are to be included in the holiday pay calculation. (but only for max of 20 days annually, unless contract includes more). • To be part of “normal pay”, additional pay elements must be “regular” (in 12-week period before holiday) and also “intrinsically linked” to the worker’s performance of duties. This is assessed on case-by-case basis. • Courts have determined that included as part of “normal pay” in calculating holiday pay are:- i. Commissions paid to workers. ii. Pay for overtime guaranteed contractually to workers. iii. Pay for non-guaranteed overtime where compulsory to do overtime offered. iv. Purely voluntary overtime. v. Payments made to reflect worker’s status/seniority/specific expertise. vi. (Probably) regular bonuses rewarding a worker’s performance. • Not to be included are:- i. Expenses paid reimbursing worker for costs incurred. ii. Exceptional/unusual payments (eg non-regular discretionary company personal bonuses). iii. (Probably) bonuses unrelated to worker’s own performance. Due to strict Employment Tribunal time limits, any worker suspecting underpayment of wages whilst on holiday should seek urgent legal advice.
