Description:
This window, located in the front of the
narthex, depicts the first sacrament in the
Lutheran Church: Baptism. Baptism is the
entry point into God’s family and the place
where H e adopts people and makes them
His own. In this window we see the image
of a dove descending from heaven which
represents the Holy Spirit. In Baptism, the
Holy Spirit is given to a person to create faith
in them and promises to continue to help that
faith grow during one’s life. Below the dove
is the image of a shell which is often associated
with baptism. A shell is frequently used
to scoop up and apply the water of Baptism
onto a person’s head. A stream of water flows
from the shell to the lower part of the window,
where we see a baptismal font (which would
hold the water for a baptism) and a Bible
(which is God’s Word). It is this Word of God
that is combined with ordinary water to give
us the extraordinary gift of Baptism.
