OUTREACH TOUR<br />
Europe<br />
The outreach tour to Europe was conducted from 18<br />
February to 11 <strong>April</strong> 2019, headed by Dr. Chime Dolkar,<br />
Resident Doctor of Nizamuddin Clinic, Delhi; Tibetan<br />
Astro-Science Practitioner (TASP) Mrs. Lhamo Yangchen;<br />
and Mr. Tashi Tsering, Branch Manager, Dharamsala.<br />
The outreach team toured Dortmund, Frankfurt and<br />
Freiburg in Germany; Zurich in Switzerland; Monnetier<br />
Mornex in France; and Barcelona and Madrid in Spain,<br />
where they gave a series of lectures on Tibetan Medicine<br />
and Astro-Science. They exhibited thangkas on Tibetan<br />
medicine and Astro-Science and displayed Herbal<br />
products. The team rendered 286 health consultations<br />
and 72 oral-astro consultations during the tour.<br />
Shimla<br />
The outreach Tour in India on the theme “Healthy<br />
body Healthy Mind: Celebrating 103 years of Men-<br />
Tsee-Khang’s Public Health Services” was organized<br />
in Shimla from 7 to 8 <strong>May</strong>, 2019. Dr. Sunder Sharma,<br />
Deputy Director (Technical) Directorate of Ayurveda,<br />
Shimla presided as the Chief Guest for the event. Other<br />
dignitaries present were the guest of honour Mr. Rajesh<br />
Sharma, Assistant Director Himalaya Forest Research<br />
Institute (HFRI); special guests Dr. Krishan Dutt Sharma,<br />
Distt. Ayurveda Officer, Shimla; Mr. Tenzin Norbu,<br />
Tibetan Welfare Officer; and Mr. S.K. Singh, Principal and<br />
Chotop Tashi Woenang, Rector of CST Chhota Shimla.<br />
The local NGO bodies, students and the public attended<br />
the function as well.<br />
The Chief Guest commended Men-Tsee-Khang for<br />
fulfilling His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s vision to promote<br />
and practice Tibetan Medicine and Astro-Science. He said<br />
that “Healthy mind resides in Healthy body, which is very<br />
much applicable in today’s society as well. Therefore it is<br />
important to take good care of it. But in order to enjoy<br />
good physical health, one must have sound mental and<br />
emotional state of mind.”<br />
Dr. Tenzin Thaye gave health consultations to 155 patients<br />
while 17 oral-astro consultations were given by Mrs.<br />
Lhamo Yangchen, Tibetan Astro-Science Practitioner.<br />
South America<br />
A tour to South America was carried out from 23 <strong>April</strong><br />
to 28 <strong>May</strong> 2019, led by Mrs. Tenzin Yanki, Tibetan Astro-<br />
Science Practitioner (TASP); Dr. Tseyang, Chauntra Sowa<br />
Rigpa Study & Research Centre; Mrs. Tenzin Kalden,<br />
Production Promotion Panel; and Ms. Chemi Dolkar,<br />
Medicine Store Department. The outreach programme<br />
included series of lectures on Tibetan Medicine, health<br />
consultation, oral-astro consultation and exhibition on<br />
Tibetan medicine and Astro-Science.<br />
The team organized programmes in Buenos Aires and<br />
Cordoba in Argentina; Bogota in Colombia; and Sau Paulo<br />
in Brazil. The doctor consulted 215 patients and offered<br />
cupping, massage and acupuncture treatments to the<br />
needed patients. A total of 199 oral-astro consultations<br />
were provided by TASP.

CONFERENCES<br />
9 th Body, Mind and Life conferences<br />
The Body, Mind and Life department of Men-Tsee-Khang<br />
organized its 9 th Body, Mind and Life conference from<br />
14-15 <strong>April</strong> 2019 at Men-Tsee-Khang Wellness Centre,<br />
Bengaluru on the topic “Nurturing a Child’s Mental<br />
Health”. The Opening ceremony was graced by the<br />
Chief Guest Smt. Meenakshi Negi, IFS, Director, AYUSH,<br />
Karnataka; Guest of honor, Father Pramod Kumar Samad,<br />
Associate Director, St. John’s Medical College Hospital;<br />
Special Guests Mr. Anant Desai, Project Officer, AYUSH,<br />
and Mr. Chophel Thupten, Chief Representative, South<br />
Zone, (CTA).<br />
The 2-Day conference consisted of sessions with Geshema<br />
Tenzin Lhadron, Buddhist Psychology; Dr. Tenzin Choying,<br />
Tibetan Medicine (Sowa-Rigpa); Dr. Malavika Kapoor,<br />
Western Medical Science; Dr. Lakshmeesha Upadhyaya,<br />
Ayurveda Medicine; Dr. Hemant Bhargav, Yoga therapy;<br />
Dr. Rohit Srivatsan, Homeopathic Medicine; TASP Mrs.<br />
Tsering Choezom, Tibetan Astro-Science; Dr. R. Sudha,<br />
Siddha Medicine; and Dr. Mohd Quarim, Unani Medicine.<br />
The conference was well received and witnessed around<br />
70 participants in total.<br />
The closing ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest<br />
Father Mathew Chandran Kunnel, Director of Ecunemical<br />
Centre, Bengaluru; Guest of honor Ms. Shanti Yachna,<br />
Director of Choekhor Sumling, and Special Guest Mr.<br />
Dhondup, Director of TCV Youth Hostel, Bengaluru.<br />
Sowa-Rigpa Research Symposium, Varanasi<br />
Dr. Rinzin Sangmo, Head of Research and Development<br />
Department and Mrs. Tenzin Norlha, Head of Quality<br />
Assurance Department, Men-Tsee-Khang, Dharamsala<br />
participated in the Sowa-Rigpa Research Symposium. It<br />
was organized by the Department of Sowa-Rigpa, Central<br />
Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS), Varanasi from<br />
29-30 <strong>April</strong> 2019 to mark the 25 th founding anniversary<br />
of Department of Sowa-Rigpa. The conference opened<br />
with the gracious presence of Mrs. Anita Das, Former<br />
Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH as the Guest of Honor<br />
and Professor Virendra Chauhan, President of National<br />
Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) as the<br />
Chief Guest.<br />
Dr. Rinzin Sangmo spoke on the importance of Sowa-<br />
Rigpa Clinical Studies on Chronic Diseases such as cancer<br />
and on current researches being carried out by Men-<br />
Tsee-Khang. Mrs. Tenzin Norlha presented a talk on Total<br />
Quality Management of Men-Tsee-Khang’s Sorig Herbal<br />
Products.
MEDICAL / AWARENESS CAMP<br />
Jangthang<br />
Men-Tsee-Khang Cultural Centre, Ladakh conducted a<br />
free medical camp in Goyul, Kagshung, Hanley, Rongo,<br />
Nyima, Samedh, Churmur, Sumdho and Kharey in the<br />
Jangthang region from 4-14 <strong>April</strong> 2019.<br />
Dr. Sonam Dekyi, Chief Resident Doctor, assisted by Mr.<br />
Sonam Topden and Mr. Tenzin Tharlam rendered health<br />
care services to 473 patients. Charities amounting to<br />
232,520.38 were given to poor and needy patients.<br />
The medical camp was very beneficial to the Jangthang<br />
people, who are unable to go to hospitals or dispensaries<br />
due to their constant movement from one place to<br />
another.<br />
Dharamsala<br />
Men-Tsee-Khang organized a 2-day medical camp<br />
on 13 and 14 <strong>May</strong> 2019 at Tsuklakhang, Dharamsala.<br />
The medical camp was held after the conclusion of<br />
His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s three days teaching on<br />
Tsongkhapa’s Three Principal Paths (lamtso namsum)<br />
& The Furthest Everlasting Continuum (Sanskrit:<br />
Uttaratantra) (Tibetan: gyu lama). A total of 153 health<br />
consultations, 13 acupuncture treatments, 12 oral-astro<br />
consultations and charities amounting to Rs. 10,551.4<br />
were provided by a team of three doctors, Astro-Science<br />
Practitioner and six support staff.<br />
Restorative Yoga Session, Dalhousie<br />
Under the preventative measures initiated by Men-Tsee-<br />
Khang, a free Yoga workshop was organized at Dalhousie<br />
Tibetan settlement. Mr. Tsering Dhondup, yoga instructor<br />
conducted the yoga classes from 20-25 <strong>April</strong> 2019 at the<br />
settlement community hall.<br />
The workshop got positive response with 16 people,<br />
mostly senior citizen, taking part in the classes. The<br />
<strong>April</strong>-<strong>May</strong> 2019<br />
workshop not only proved beneficial for physical and<br />
mental well-being, but also opened doors to practice<br />
yoga for maintaining a healthy body. Yoga dresses were<br />
also distributed.<br />
Peace March<br />
To commemorate 30 th birth anniversary of 11 Panchen<br />
Lama Gendun Choekyi Nyima, a nation-wide peace march<br />
was organized by Tibetan Women Association seeking his<br />
immediate release. The foot march was launched from<br />
five different zones namely Dharamsala-Chandigarh,<br />
Dehradun-Delhi, Gangtok-Salugara, Bhandara-Nagpur<br />
and Mysore-Bengaluru.<br />
Men-Tsee-Khang extended its support by providing free<br />
health care service to the marchers. Traditional health<br />
care services such as massage therapy, copper cupping,<br />
acupuncture and acupressure treatments were provided<br />
by four doctors. Charity amounting to Rs. 16,303.69 was<br />
given, and 247 participants received health consultations<br />
according to the Tibetan medicine.<br />
Leh<br />
Men-Tsee-Khang Cultural Centre organized a medical<br />
camp during the 26 th Monlam Chenmo by All Ladakh<br />
Gompa Association at the Leh Jokhang Vihara or Gompa<br />
Soma, Leh from 25-29 <strong>May</strong> 2019. The medical camp was<br />
set up inside the compound of the monastery. Three<br />
resident doctors from Ladakh branch clinics and five<br />
support staff conducted the medical camp with the help<br />
of three intern doctors from Central Institute of Buddhist<br />
studies (CIBS).<br />
The doctors consulted 268 patients and charity amounting<br />
to Rs. 15,069.00 were dispensed. Hypertension, arthritis,<br />
diabetes, kidney stones, gastritis were some of the<br />
conditions found common in the patients.

103 YEARS OF MEN-TSEE-KHANG’S<br />
PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES<br />
Our Centenary outreach tours to USA East Coast/<br />
Canada, Europe, USA West Coast and South<br />
America conducted between <strong>April</strong> 2018 to<br />
March 2019 had been a great success due to the<br />
efforts of various support groups. Above all, the<br />
encouragements we received and the experiences<br />
we gained, contributed to our initiating more world<br />
tours. Our subsequent tours to various places had<br />
also been a great success.<br />
We plan to conduct more outreach tours (health<br />
consultations, oral-astro consultations, lectures/<br />
workshops on Tibetan Medicine & Tibetan Astro-<br />
Science, exhibition, sale of health products) every<br />
year.<br />
