King Philip Hosts Hockomock
Unified Track and Field Championships
I was so glad to be a part of it,”
said Matt Anderson, coach of the
King Philip unified track team.
“Watching close to 300 athletes
compete, cheer for each other,
smile and laugh for the afternoon
was an incredible experience for
the KP community and I am
thankful that the Hockomock
League chose us to host the Unified
Championship this year.”
This is the first year King
Philip has had its own unified
track and field team.
“It was a pleasure to coach all
of our athletes,” Anderson said.
“I was highly impressed with all
the hard work the athletes did
this season and how much they
improved from the start of the
season until the final meet yesterday.
The level of teamwork
and camaraderie was great and
I can’t wait to see how the program
grows next year.”
King Philip Varsity Soccer
Player Avery Snead Named
Allstate All-American
King Philip Regional High
School junior Avery Snead was
named as one of the top 125
junior girls high school soccer
players in the country by Allstate.
Snead, who plays midfield
on the KP varsity soccer team,
was selected to be an Allstate
All-American, a new program
that selects the top 125 boy and
girl soccer players in the country,
who are in their junior year.
Snead was nominated by local
sports reporters who were asked
to select standout athletes in
their area.
“Avery is a wonderful student-athlete
who truly exemplifies
the KP Warrior spirit on
and off the field,” KPHS Principal
Lisa Mobley said. “To be
named an All-American by any
organization is a great honor
and we congratulate Avery on
her selection.”
Snead is one of only three
other girls from Massachusetts
who were named All-Americans.
In addition to being recognized
as an All-American,
Snead has an opportunity to be
selected as one of 40 girls who
will play in the inaugural Allstate
All-America Cup in Orlando,
Florida on July 31.
A committee will be selecting
40 boys and 40 girls to make up
four teams. Two boys teams will
face each other in one game and
two girls teams will square off as
part of the event.
The teams will be coached by
renowned former professional
soccer players Brandi Chastain,
Julie Foudy, Brian McBride
and Taylor Twellman. Both the
boys and girls All-America Cup
games will air live on ESPNU
and be streamed online.
“Congratulations to Avery
for her selection and we are
keeping our fingers crossed that
she gets chosen to participate in
the All-America Cup game in
Florida,” KPHS Athletic Director
Gary Brown said.
