Board Of Directors Meetings
The Board of Directors meet monthly in the community and homeowners are
welcome to attend. Please contact management to obtain the meeting date and
time in advance, as the schedule and location may change from time to time. You
are also welcome to email management any questions or concerns you may have
to scarey@highsierramanagement.com if you are unable to attend meetings
and the Board of Directors will be happy to send you a response. As a reminder,
monthly financials, governing documents, meeting minutes, forms, schedules,
etc. are updated on the Association website for your review at any time.
Streetlights
Please report any lights that are out, blinking or on during the day. Part
of your annual Homeowners fee pays for your streetlights, whether they
work or not. If a light is out in your area, please call 713-207-2222 or go
to www.centerpointenergy.com/outage and report it. Each light pole
should have a 6-digit number on it. When reporting the light, you will
need to provide the pole number and closest intersection or address. We
want all our lights to work…a well lit area is a safe area!
Signs On Mailboxes, Light Poles
And Street Signs
If you place signs in and around the neighborhood for Garage Sales, Lost Pets,
etc., please make sure you remove them in a timely manner. Remember that
postal boxes are the property of the USPS and it is a crime to attach anything to
the cluster mailboxes! Please help to keep Aberdeen Trails looking beautiful!
Tennis Court Use
We have received reports that children have been using the tennis courts
for everything but tennis. Please reiterate to your children that use of the
courts is for tennis play ONLY. No soccer, rollerblading, skateboarding,
bike riding, basketball, etc. allowed. Children caught abusing the courts
may cause their parents to be financial penalized for any damages.
Sign Up For Emergency Notifications
The City of Houston, in partnership with the Greater Harris County 9-1-1
Emergency Network, is now offering emergency notifications to mobile phones
through the Emergency Notification System (ENS). These emergency alerts will
help residents get more information about emergencies in their neighborhoods,
such as hazardous chemical spills, floods and large fires. Staying informed is an
important way of keeping yourself and your family safe when emergencies occur.
Landline home or work telephones are already a part of the ENS system and now
residents can register their cell or internet phone numbers so they can be alerted
about an emergency in their community. It’s simple and easy; sign-up at the City
of Houston Office of Emergency Management website http://alert.houstonoem.
org or http://911.org and register up to four telephone numbers. Houstonians can
also register for ‘Alert Houston,’ the City of Houston’s Email Notification System,
which sends emails to residents when emergencies affecting a large portion of
the city occur, such as severe weather and hurricanes. Find out more about both
AlertHouston and ENS by visiting http://alert.houstonoem.org.
Recreation Vehicles & Trailers
We have been receiving numerous reports about all terrain vehicles
being ridden along the drainage ditch areas and power line easements.
As a reminder, this is private property and we have instructed the
Constable Patrol to monitor the areas and write citations for trespassing,
as well as deterring safety hazards. We have also noticed personal utility
Information
trailers being parked behind fences along the drainage ditch and will be
collecting license plate information to determine ownership for violation
notices from the Association, as well as the Constable Patrol issuing
citations for trespassing on private property. Towing of the trailers could
be an end result as well.
Constable Patrol
As a reminder, the Association has a patrol contract through Harris
County Precinct 5 Constable. We share 40 hours of patrol per week
at random time with Aberdeen Trails HOA. Please add the following
dispatch number to your cell phones or post in a visible place at home
in case you need support in a non life-threatening situation. Their nonemergency
dispatch number is 281-463-6666. The Constable Patrol
also offers a free vacation watch service. Log on to their website at
Please help us to keep our recreation areas safe and clean by reporting
any and all loitering after dark directly to the Constable and then to
management.
the community or at the parks immediately to the Constable Patrol nonemergency
dispatch number at 281-463-6666. Better safe than sorry!
Home Improvements
It’s that time of year again where everyone is out and about
sprucing up their yards and performing the “honey-do’s” on their
homes. Please remember that any change or improvement to the
exterior of your home or lot (even in the back yard) must be applied
for through the Association prior to starting. You can find a copy of
the home improvement guidelines and application on the website
Pet Policy And Etiquette
We understand your pets are very important to you and want to be a pet
friendly community. However, we have received many complaints that
there are pet owners not following the rules of the community when it
comes to pet etiquette. Please, be aware and make a conscious effort to
the adhere to the following guidelines:
• Only two pets per household - refer to governing documents regarding
height and weight limits.
• Pick up pet waste and discard properly.
• Do not allow pets to roam around the community unrestrained - it’s the
law! This includes cats too!
• Do not allow dogs to bark continuously disturbing neighbors.
July Is National Ice Cream Month
In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream
Month and the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day. He
recognized ice cream as a fun and nutritious food that is enjoyed by over
90 percent of the nation’s population. In the proclamation, President
Reagan called for all people of the United States to observe these
events with “appropriate ceremonies and activities.” The International
Ice Cream Association (IICA) encourages retailers and consumers to
celebrate July as National Ice Cream Month. About 10.3 percent of all
the milk produced by U.S. dairy farmers is used to produce ice cream,
contributing significantly to the economic well-being of the nation’s
dairy industry.
Ice Cream in a Bag
What You Need
• 1 tablespoon Sugar
• 1/2 cup Milk or half & half
• 1/4 teaspoon Vanilla
• 6 tablespoons Rock salt
• 1 pint-size Ziploc plastic bag
• 1 gallon-size Ziploc plastic bag
• Ice cubes
How To Make It
1. Fill the large bag half full of ice and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.
2. Put milk, vanilla and sugar into the small bag and seal it.
3. Place the small bag inside the large one and seal again carefully.
4. Shake until mixture is ice cream, about 5 minutes.
5. Wipe off top of small bag, then open carefully and enjoy!
ST. AIDAN’S SETS SUMMER VBS
Believe it or not, it’s time to start thinking about Vacation Bible School
again and the folks at St. Aidan’s have another great program planned.
Scheduled for the week of July 8 th -12 th , St. Aidan’s usually hosts about
80 children. This year’s theme is ROAR: Life is wild. God is Good. We
usually have Bahama Bucks on the last day. That is always a big treat for
our students. And, last year, we hosted Wild Things Zoofari. They brought
a wallaby, a toucan, a lemur and a hedgehog. Everyone really enjoyed
that.”
Cost of VBS is $30. Scholarships are available for families in-need. New
for this year, we are adding Triumph Sports so our students will have
a full-day option. From 12-4 PM, Triumph will run a Bible-based sports
camp. Participants will play dodgeball, kickball, capture the flag,
basketball, soccer and more. Registration for this afternoon session is
$115. Registration is already open at aidanschurch.org. For additional
information, please call the church at 281-373-3203.
Nutrition services team
offers free summer meals
Starting this summer, CFISD’s nutrition services department will offer children
18 and younger the healthy Seamless Summer Option (SSO) breakfasts and
lunches at no cost to the child. “The SSO program is a great way for us to
provide access to meals for our students during the summer months,” said
Darin Crawford, director of nutrition services. “Kids need good nutrition to
fuel their summer activities and we are thrilled to be able to continue to offer
school meals during the long summer break.” SSO is a U.S. Department of
Agriculture nutrition program and is administered by the Texas Department
of Agriculture. The meals offered through SSO give children who rely on
school meals during the academic year a good source of nutrition during
the long summer vacation. Summer meals help children return to school in
the fall ready to thrive. All sites are open Monday-Thursday only. For a full
Berry Center employees donate more than 1,000 items to food pantry
Thirty-one Berry Center staff members, along with the community engagement department, donated approximately 1,200 non-perishable food items
to the CFISD Food Pantry on June 4 th . After hearing the pantry was opening for the summer, Beth Wade, director of the Berry Center, challenged her
employees to donate $15 each to help buy food items.
Wade said she was very pleased with the response but was impressed with one staff member in particular. “Terri Tyler on our building service crew
told her friends and neighbors about what we were doing and was able to collect $210,” Wade said.
The donations were delivered to the CFISD Food Pantry, located at Campbell Middle School and will benefit families in the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD
community.
Houston Places First in the US and
Third Globally for Species Diversity
Citizen Scientists in The Greater Houston and Galveston area competed
in the Third Annual City Nature Challenge and won first place in the
United States for most species identified during April 26-29, 2019. The
Houston participants identified 3,367 species of flora and fauna from
backyards to city parks to wildlife refuges and sanctuaries. The city took
third place globally with Cape Town and Hong Kong coming in first and
second respectively.
During the City Nature Challenge, cities around the world compete to see
which urban area has the most nature and the most engaged residents
by posting observations on iNaturalist, an online Citizen Science effort to
document species. This year’s City Nature Challenge included 159 cities
around the world with almost one million observations recorded.
898 people in the Houston-Galveston area contributed to this year’s
Challenge. Eric Keith of Raven Environmental Services, Inc. and Andy
Newman of Resource Environmental Solutions, LLC were the top local
observers. The top species observed was the beautiful wildflower
Oenothera speciosa, also known locally as Pinkladies or Buttercup.
The Houston City Nature Challenge is organized by Houston Audubon,
The Nature Conservancy in Texas and Texas Parks and Wildlife. To view
2019 results, click on http://citynaturechallenge.org/.
Established in 1969 as an autonomous, self-supporting chapter of the
National Audubon Society, Houston Audubon Society’s mission is to
advance the conservation of birds and positively impact their supporting
environments which it accomplishes through acquiring and maintaining
critical habitat as bird sanctuaries, providing education programs and
nature experiences for children and adults and advocating policy and
management actions in support of the mission. Houston Audubon owns
and manages 17 nature sanctuaries encompassing 3,400 acres across
the Greater Houston and Galveston regions and became an Accredited
Land Trust in 2017. To learn more, visit www.houstonaudubon.org.
The Nature Conservancy is a global conservation organization dedicated
to conserving the lands and waters on which all life depends. Guided by
science, we create innovative, on-the-ground solutions to our world’s
toughest challenges so that nature and people can thrive together. We
are tackling climate change, conserving lands, waters and oceans at
an unprecedented scale, providing food and water sustainably and
helping make cities more sustainable. Working in 72 countries, we use a
Golf Tournament raised $102,000 for
Katy Christian Ministries
Katy Christian Ministries (KCM) hosted their 20 th Annual Golf Tournament
May 6, 2019 at Weston Lakes Country Club in Fulshear, TX. Proceeds from
the event benefit the programs and services that KCM provides free of
charge to families in crisis within a 12 zip code area in the Katy/West
Houston area.
The event’s original budgeted goal was $80,000, but members of the KCM
Development Committee set out in faith to reach a Big Holy Audacious
Goal of raising $100,000 to celebrate the agency’s 35 year anniversary
and 20 years of golf tournaments. The event raised over $102,000,
blowing the original $80,000 goal out of the water. The Title sponsor and
“Anniversary Angel” was Fort Bend County Commissioner Andy Meyers
and Fort Bend Charities. Parkway Fellowship was the Platinum Sponsor.
Other sponsors include BGE - Double Eagle and Grace Fellowship UMC -
Birdie & Eagle. These sponsors are all long-time supporters of KCM and
believe in the mission of transforming lives together.
The tournament featured a scramble format on an 18-hole course, hole
in one, raffle prizes, silent auction, a putting contest, Bubba Drive, inside
the circle and closest to the pin games. Participants were treated to a
steak dinner following the tournament and a special, anniversary edition
golf polo. Special thanks to the Bagel Cafe Bible Study Group from Grace
Fellowship UMC that prepared an incredibly tasty lunch and dinner
straight from the grill.
For more information about the tournament, to participate as a 2020
sponsor or to join the planning committee for the 2020 tournament,
