MJ
Hannah Radostits, Frankfort
resident
My name is MJ. Yes, I’m
named after Michael
Jordan. He was called Air
Jordan; I am called Air Kitty.
He was called Black Cat; I
am an orange long-haired
cat. I even sport my parachute fur pants like I’m
MC Hammer. I am an 8-year-old senior male and
I deserve all the attention. I love cuddling with my
human ever since the day she rescued me from
a dirty basement in Indiana. Living in Frankfort is
a dream life of cat-grass, toys, love, cuddles, and
treats. I’ve always been curious of guests and very
friendly. I enjoy being apart of the festivities. People
know I’m coming around because my nonstop purr
is equivalent to a helicopter. I’ll never be silenced.
On that note, if you ever meet me, please don’t
hesitate to give me love.
Last Call Before Fall
FROM THE TINLEY JUNCTION
Tinley library converts
archival newspaper
collection, making research
a breeze
Up until this spring, a library
patron trying to find
an old Tinley Park newspaper
article mentioning a
relative, since-closed business
or noteworthy local
event of yore had to head
to a microfilm machine
and brace for hours of
searching.
Today, the quest could
6–9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8,
Georgios Orland Park,
8800 W. 159th St., Orland Park
be done in a matter of minutes,
if not seconds.
That is because the Tinley
Park Public Library
has completed a digitization
of its archival newspaper
collection, making
more than 400 microfilm
“It makes everything so
much easier,” said Graham
Dostal, a learning and
technology coordinator at
the library. “Before, if you
were looking for something,
you had to have a
ballpark. Then, it was a
matter of endlessly scrolling
through the film to find
the article. We wanted to
make it more findable and
usable for our modern digital
age.”
A library guest looking
for an obituary of a
great aunt, for example,
need only know the proper
spelling of her name to
find it quickly.
The effort, undertaken
in partnership with Newspapers.com,
which is
owned by Ancestory.com,
gives library visitors easier
and quicker access to the
Tinley Park Times (1929-
1971), Tinley Park Times
Herald (1973-1975), Tinley
Park Star Tribune
(1974-1976), Tinley Park
Tinley Park Star (1983-
The trove is freely accessible
to anyone using
a library computer, using
a personal computer connected
to the library’s Wi-
Fi network or anyone with
a personal Newspapers.
