Community summer picnic a big success!<br />

On Friday, June 21, at the Kaslo community summer picnic, approximately<br />

250 people enjoyed a free outdoor meal and live musical entertainment. The<br />

scene was picture-perfect at Vimy Park, where on a sun-drenched evening<br />

families, individuals and elders came together and enjoyed each other’s company<br />

with a good meal and good conversation.<br />

Children ran around the playground, people lounged in chairs and on blankets,<br />

the Moon Family Band played an epic three hour set of music and there<br />

was food enough for all. Spit-roasted pork, veggie burgers, salads and dessert<br />

were all part of this community event.<br />

Organizing the event was the Kaslo Community Cares Network, a coalition<br />

of North <strong>Kootenay</strong> <strong>Lake</strong> Community Services, Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Kaslo<br />

Senior Citizens Association, St. Mark’s Anglican Church, St. Andrew’s United<br />

Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Many community members and<br />

businesses contributed and volunteered to make this event possible. The picnic<br />

fundraised over $1000 which was enough to cover the costs and leave a little extra<br />

which was donated to the Kaslo Food Hub.<br />

<strong>Kootenay</strong> <strong>Lake</strong> Hospital is home to a thriving operating<br />

room, which is used over 2,000 hours per year for orthopedic<br />

surgeries, cataract surgery, obstetrical and gynecologic<br />

surgeries and general surgeries such as hernia<br />

repairs and colonoscopies.<br />

Interior Health recognizes the excellent surgical services<br />

to enable a nearly 50% increase in colonoscopies<br />

soil sampling, obtaining government authorization and<br />

delivery costs of Celgrow soil amendment based on access with a<br />

Celgrow are individual wood fibres lost from the pulping process<br />

and surplus bacteria from the wastewater biological treatment<br />

facility. Wood fibres enhance soil moisture retention and bacteria<br />

The Kaslo & District Community Forest Society is drafting<br />

their replacement Forest Stewardship Plan (FSP)<br />

for 2019-2024. The FSP is a 5 year landscape-level<br />

plan that identifies how the holder of the plan will be consistent with<br />

government objectives for managing and protecting the forest, wildlife,<br />

water and range values through the results, strategies and measures<br />

proposed in the plan. The draft KDCFS FSP will be available for public<br />

Rob Morrison, has<br />

issued a challenge to all candidates<br />

to attend a series of debates, in multiple<br />

riding communities leading up<br />

to the fall federal election.<br />

“I have spent the last two years<br />

traveling throughout our riding,<br />

meeting with folks and hearing their<br />

stories,” says Morrison, “They have<br />

made it clear that they want to have<br />

their voices heard before the election.<br />

I agree with them wholeheartedly<br />

and believe that it is our duty as candidates to make<br />

ourselves available to constituents and in their home<br />

towns. Folks should not have to travel more than 30 minutes<br />

to participate in democracy. <strong>Kootenay</strong>-Columbians<br />

deserve better representation than that and I am committed<br />

to participating in each of these debates.”<br />

Morrison’s campaign manager, Wesly Graham, is<br />

proposing the formation of a committee, comprised of<br />

one representative from each candidate, tasked to work<br />

with debate organizers to set a schedule that will provide<br />

debates in a minimum of 12 communities in the<br />

riding. CPC campaign staff are actively reaching out to<br />

all known candidates and will follow up with the Green<br />

Party and Liberal Party once those candidates have been<br />

announced.<br />

dispose of the following property: PID 027-025-071<br />

to MARINA RIDGE STRATA CORP NES3200 in the<br />

amount of $6,026.53 plus Goods & Services Tax.<br />

The Village acquired the property, which is a small<br />

office space adjacent to the strata’s common areas,<br />

through tax sale in 2016. The sale price is the<br />

amount of taxes that were owed to the Village at the<br />
