Audit Guia, Zamora asks CoA
Mayor ‘not accusing anyone of corruption’
By Neil Alcober
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora on Monday
called on the Commission on Audit (CoA) to look
into how the funds were used by the previous
administration of Guia Gomez.
“I am inviting the CoA central office to review all
the transactions made by the previous administration,”
Zamora said in an interview.
He claimed that based on their internal audit the
previous administration had left behind P1.3 billion
but the amount cannot be considered as savings as
it was already obligated.
“We are just doing this to know exactly how
much fund was left by the previous administration.
The truth is that the P1.3 billion was already
obligated,” Zamora said.
The newly elected mayor also stressed
that he is not accusing
anyone of corruption and
irregularities.
“I am not accusing
anyone of corruption,
anomaly or plunder.
What I am saying is that
this is the data which we
saw, and only CoA can
say if the funds were utilized
properly. Let’s see what they will
see once they audit,” he explained.
Zamora said the move is part of his campaign
promises to provide the people of San Juan a
government free from corruption.
“This is part of our promises to have an honest,
transparent, and accountable local government
in the City of San Juan,”
he said.
Zamora also
issued an
executive order institutionalizing the city
government integrity system.
The executive order serves as an
internal pre-audit system to ensure that
all transactions of the city government are
done properly.
“This is part of our transparency and
accountability in a governance,” Zamora
said.
SAN Juan Mayor Francis Zamora says he wants an accurate picture of the city’s financial standing.
Danao backs Isko’s drive
By Pat C. Santos
Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno”
Domagoso yesterday announced the relief of nine
Manila Police District (MPD) station 11 officials
on the order of P/Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao.
The action was in line with the new mayor’s
campaign against illegal vendors along Claro M.
Recto, Soler and Juan Luna streets in Divisoria.
Those taken out of MPD station 11 were Lt.
Col. Antonietro Eric Mendoza, Majors Robinson
Maranion and Alden Lee Panganiban, Captains
Jerry Garces, Bernardino Venturina and Manuel
Calleja, and Lieutenants Jerry Caneda, Maricel
Pili and Maribel Fiedacan.
Lt. Col. Noel Calderon Aliño takes the helm
in the said police station.
Domagoso said he expects full cooperation
from the police in his campaign to bring back
order in Manila and that those who cannot
deliver will be replaced.
“Where can you see a (police) major being
ordered around by a barangay chairman. Either
they do not see (the illegal vendors) or they are
not doing anything,” Domagoso said in Filipino.
He said he doesn’t believe in the ningas-cogon
(grass fire) mentality and that the people of
Manila can bank on his bringing back law and
order in the city.
“I haven’t done anything yet. This is only the
beginning. I cannot do it alone. This is for the
people of Manila,” he added.
Where can you see a (police) major
being ordered around by a barangay
chairman. Either they do not see (the
illegal vendors) or they are not doing
anything.
Domagoso did in 48 hours what his predecessor
failed to do in six years — clear the sidewalks
and streets of Divisoria of illegal vendors and
unauthorized terminals of pedicabs and tricycles.
He also cracked down on illegal gambling by
destroying several video karera and fruit game
machines. The mayor also tore down a barangay
outpost blocking a street.
He ordered that all city measures be
made public within hours of their enactment
or passage even as he mandated that all
public biddings be streamed live online for
transparency.
