defile 7-yr-old
girl ’for being
rude’

AKURE—A 16-year-old
girl(names withheld) has
been arrested by Police
detectives in Ondo State for
defiling a seven-year-old girl
“to punish her for being rude.”
Vanguard gathered that the
suspect confessed that she
inserted her finger into the
seven-year-old girl’s private
part, breaking her hymen.
The minor was then rushed
to the hospital, bleeding, by
her parents in Irele area of
the state.
The victim’s brother, Taiwo
Ilelaboye, said he noticed that
the sister was bleeding from
her private part and raised
the alarm.
He said: “We know the
perpetrator. She is a girl and
not a man as being
speculated. She is an
indigene of this town and had
been handed over to the
Police for legal action. The
little girl is still in the hospital
receiving treatment.”
The state police
spokesman, Femi Joseph,
who confirmed the incident,
said the suspect had
confessed committing the
crime.
Joseph said the suspect had
initially mentioned one Femi
Odofin as being responsible
for the act, but that she later
named one girl, who was
arrested by police detectives.
He added that “we can
confirm that the suspect had
been arrested and she has
confessed to have done it.
She told us that she (victim)
was rude to her and she
wanted to punish her, that
was why she took the action.
“But we still think there is
more to that action. The
Commissioner of Police has
ordered that the matter be
transferred to the Criminal
Investigation Department of
the command for further
investigation.”

Bandits kill 10, injure 5 in Katsina attack

persons were killed by about
300 bandits, weekend, while five
others were injured in Kirtawa
village, Safana Local Government
Area of Katsina State.
Five vehicles and four
motorcycles were also destroyed
in the attack that left a soldier and

Defence Corps, NSCDC,
personnel injured, even as police

A
suspect arrested by
operatives of the Lagos
State Rapid Response Squad,
RRS, has revealed how he
makes at least N18,000 daily
from selling stolen phones.
The suspect, Lawal Daodu,
31,was arrested in Computer
Village, Ikeja, on Friday at
5p.m. when he tried to steal a
phone from a passer-by under
the bridge in Ikeja.
The suspect, who had before
his arrest stealthily picked two
android phones from passersby,
was removing another
android phone from the pocket
of another would-be victim
when the phone incidentally
fell from his hand, which
attracted the attention of its
owner.
The suspect was promptly
arrested by the RRS officers
attached to an Armoured
Personnel Carrier, APC,
stationed at Ikeja, under the
bridge, and while he was
explaining the source of the
phones in his possession, one
of his victims, who was trying
to catch a glimpse of what was
happening saw his phone
among those stolen by Lawal.
Lawal, in his confession to
the Police, explained that he
enforcement agents became
necessary as, according to him,
his people who were peacefully
going about their lawful farming
were recently attacked by some
youths.
Nwanze, a retired President of
the Customary Court, Ibusa,
disclosed that members of his
community, who are
predominantly farmers and
some of them between the ages
of 70 and 80, now live in fear
as the invaders have
destroyed farm produce and
farming materials, while also
threatening that nobody, no
matter how highly placed in
the society, can stop them from
carrying out their activities.

in a gun battle, which led to the
hoodlums shooting the tyres of

He said: “On Saturday, at
about 2:20p.m., a group of 300
bandits riding motorcycles and
armed with dangerous
weapons, invaded and attacked

Government Area of Katsina
State.
“The Divisional Police Officer,
Safana, initially led teams of
Operation Puff Adder and
Sharan-Daji to the scene and
engaged the hoodlums in a gun
battle.
“In the process the hoodlums
shot the tyres of the Police
Armoured Personnel Carrier,
APC, and injured one Army and
one Civil Defence personnel.
“At the time the combined
ground forces were mobilised
into the village, the hoodlums
had already operated and
escaped into the forest.
“Ten persons were found
dead, five injured, five motor
vehicles and four motorcycles
were set ablaze, while an
unspecified number of cows
were also rustled by the
hoodlums.
“It is ostensibly clear that it
was a reprisal attack carried out
by the hoodlums against the
community. Joint security forces
have been deployed to the area
to arrest the situation, pursue
and nab the fleeing hoodlums.
“The Command commiserates
with families of the deceased and
the entire people of Katsina State
over the unfortunate incident.
“It also assures the people that
government and security forces
are mapping out formidable
strategies toward containing and
bringing to an end the menace of
banditry in the state.”

According to him, “on
Friday, I was at the Computer
Village as usual. I had stolen
two phones in the morning,
which I sold to my customers
at Computer Village.
“In the afternoon, I
resumed. I was picking the
third one when the owner
raised the alarm, which
attracted the attention of the
RRS men. They arrested me
and unfortunately, just as
I was trying to prove
my innocence, one of
my victims identified
his phone in my
hand.
“I don’t operate
every time. I go out
may be twice in a
week and I make at
least N18,000 from
picking pockets.
There were times I
made more than that,
especially when I
picked expensive
phones.
“I sell the phones to
Afeez and Lanre. They
are street guys in
Computer Village. I
was trained by Bello,
although I have not
seen him in a long
while now.”
Innocent man
killed in jungle

Meanwhile, life
has been snuffed
out of a 22-year-old
man, who was
wrongly accused
of stealing a
phone inside
a bar in
Badore area
of Ajah.

Omolegbe, who resided at the
Government Reserved Area,
Abidjan, had visited the bar to

during which the owner of the
bar, Bolanle Mohammed,
raised the
alarm
that her

missing.

allegedly

from him that he was not
the culprit.
He died. Thereafter, his
assailants allegedly dumped
his corpse in a lagoon.
Few days later, his bloated
body was recovered at the
Obadore Jetty by policemen at
Lagbansa Division.

Police Command, DSP Elkana
Bala, who confirmed the
incident, disclosed, yesterday,
that five persons have been
arrested in connection with
the murder.
He revealed that during
investigation, the phone was
discovered to have been taken
by the son of the shop owner.
According to Bala, “his body
was recovered by a team of
detectives led by the
Divisional Police Officer,
SP Ada Okafor, on July
10 at Badore Jetty and
deposited at Mainland
Hospital Mortuary for
autopsy.
“Five suspects including
the woman, who raised the
false alarm, were
arrested. The suspects
are Wasiu Wahab, Ramon
Ibrahim, Junior Adebayo
and Yusuf Adegbite.
“Wasiu Wahab, who is
the principal murder
suspect and Yusuf
Adegbite, were arrested
inside the lagoon,
where they hid
themselves to evade
arrest.
“Investigation revealed
that the phone was
actually stolen by the son
of the woman, who
wrongly accused the
deceased person. The
son confessed to the
commission of the
crime.
“The Commissioner
of Police Lagos State,
Zubairu Muazu, has
ordered the Homicide
Section of the State
C r i m i n a l
Investigation and
Intelligence
Department, SCIID,
Yaba, to take over the
investigation and ensure
diligent prosecution of the
suspects.”
