I
had the privilege
of attending Miles
Boykin’s visit to fire
Station No. 46 in Tinley
Park on July 10. With his
busy schedule after being
drafted by the Baltimore
Ravens in April, he still
made time to come home
for a great cause. This
was my first time meeting
Boykin, and I must
say, his love for Tinley is
ment. As of press time, Lt.
Ken Rosinski said a motive
was not yet known, but the
manner — the offender
rang the doorbell and did
not enter the home — suggests
it was targeted. The
incident occurred at 9:11
p.m. in the 9600 block of
Kris Trail.
The weapon, a 40 caliber
semi-automatic gun,
was fired through the
still-closed door, which is
glass, Rosinski noted.
Rosinski said police did
not believe there was any
danger to the public.
The victim was transported
to Christ Hospital
and reportedly was in stable
condition.
The alleged offender
was described as a black
male in his mid-20s who
may have been driving a
He came to sign a No.
81 Notre Dame jersey,
which was the number
he wore during his
career there the last few
years. The jersey will be
auctioned at the Tinley
Park Firefighters Association
2nd Annual Charity
Golf Outing to be held
July 25. You can read
more about the fundraising
event on Page 3. All
of the proceeds from the
event are to go to GiGi’s
Playhouse in Tinley Park.
The mission of GiGi’s
Playhouse, according to
its website, is “to change
the way the world views
Down syndrome and to
send a global message of
acceptance for all.”
Last year, the firefighters
association donated
Boykin has known
the vice president of the
association since he was
in fifth grade, so it only
made sense to him to
come and help out those
who have supported him
all these years.
But that’s what impressed
me the most—
Boykin is so humble.
Sure, he’s going on to
play professional football,
but unless he told
you, you would never
know. It speaks volumes
to how much Tinley has
impacted him, from his
When I spoke with him
he kept stressing the fact
that Tinley has supported
him so much that he
wants to do the same for
his hometown. For just a
few hours on July 10, he
did what he could to take
part in something that
directly helps the people
of Tinley. While he can’t
attend the actual event on
July 25 due to training
camp, he made it a priority
to do what he could
in what little time he had
and that in itself is quite
admiring.
