and systematic perspective.<br />

The 1 credit practicum provides<br />

seminarians with liturgical celebration<br />

competencies of the<br />

sacraments of Baptism and<br />

Confirmation by an ordained deacon.<br />

Also included in the<br />

practicum are the celebration of<br />

exposition and benediction of the<br />

Blessed Sacrament, the functions<br />

of the deacon at Mass and the diaconal<br />

celebration of Baptism,<br />

Marriage, and the Church’s funeral<br />

rites.<br />

SL507 Doctrine of God<br />

3 credits. This course is a theological<br />

examination of the classic<br />

Christian doctrine of God in light<br />

of contemporary discussions of<br />

salvation, creation, ecclesiology,<br />

Eastern theology, theologies of<br />

liberation, feminism, and language<br />

about God.<br />

SL510 Liturgical Theology<br />

3 credits. This course considers<br />

the development of Christian worship<br />

from its Jewish matrix<br />

through the liturgical tradition of<br />

the Church as it developed in the<br />

different periods to its present<br />

contemporary practice.<br />

SL519 Theology of Ministry and<br />

Ordained Priesthood<br />

3 credits. This course examines<br />

key biblical, historical, theological,<br />

and pastoral perspectives on<br />

the nature and meaning of ecclesial<br />

ministry (both lay and<br />

ordained) in the Roman Catholic<br />

tradition.<br />

SL553 Patristic Theology<br />

3 credits. A survey of the life and<br />

works of selected Church Fathers<br />

from the second to approximately<br />

the sixth century, with attention to<br />

the development of the canon,<br />

ethics, theology, spirituality, and<br />

liturgy.<br />

SL554 Marian Theology/ Spirituality<br />

1.5 credits. This course explores<br />

the anthropological, biblical, doctrinal,<br />

and systematic approaches<br />

to a theology of Mary, including<br />

Marian devotions and spirituality,<br />

within the context of the communion<br />

of saints.<br />

SL555 Eschatology<br />

1.5 credits. An examination of the<br />

Catholic understanding of human<br />

person, the Church, and world<br />

history before God by reflecting<br />

on the doctrines that constitute<br />

eschatology (the last things), e.g.,<br />

the relationship between sin and<br />

death, initial and final judgment,<br />

the end of history, heaven, hell,<br />

purgatory, and the hope of fulfillment<br />

in the Kingdom of God.<br />

704 Missiology<br />

3 credits. This course investigates<br />

Roman Catholic perspectives on<br />

Christian mission in its biblical,<br />

historical, theological, and practical<br />

dimensions. The nature of<br />

Christian mission will encompass<br />

Catholic pastoral activities in<br />

parish settings.<br />

742 Theology of Sacred Music and<br />

its Pastoral Practice<br />

3 credits. This course focuses on<br />

the development and use of music<br />

in sacred rites within the Judeo-<br />

Christian tradition. Special<br />

emphasis will be given to the theological<br />

understanding of music’s<br />

role within the liturgy at Vatican<br />

II wherein music is considered<br />
