Industry News U.S. Now Screening Visa Applicants’ Social Media Visa Applicants are now required to submit information about their social media to the State Department. This is part of a more extensive screening process of almost 15 million foreigners wanting to gain entry to the United States each year. This new requirement applies to almost all applicants for immigrant and nonimmigrant visas, including business or education. This policy follows a directive from the White House asking the State Department to use ‘extreme vetting’ in the interest of national security. According to the Washington Post, the new visa application forms list a number of social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and require the applicant to provide any account names they have used on them over the previous five years. Applicants are also asked for all telephone numbers and email addresses they have used during the five-year timeframe. Story credit: The Power of A Canon Headquarters Relocating to Uxbridge, U.K. Canon has announced that it will be moving its headquarters from Reigate to Uxbridge within the next year. The multinational company has decided to move to ‘address efficiency improvements’ and outsource finance, business operations and customer service. This means that Canon’s UK and Ireland headquarters will now be at the same location as the company’s Europe, Middle East and Africa headquarters. Canon’s managing director, Yusuke Mizoguchi, said, ‘Given that the EMEA HQ has been based in the UK for many years, it makes strategic sense to seek out opportunities to create a more streamlined operation whilst increasing our overall competitiveness.
