When Is Tax Free Weekend?
The 2019 Tax Free Days vary by state, each state sets its own dates as well as the items that are available
to purchase tax free. Most categories also have a limit of value per item purchased which is something you
should be aware of before shopping. The tax free weekend for Texas is August 9 th -11 th .
Here is a general list of the items included: School Supplies, Backpacks, Clothing, Jackets, Computers,
Laptops and Printers.

Most large retailers like Walmart, Amazon & Target should be included in tax free weekend. That means you
can shop online tax free! This may not apply to smaller retailers who typically don’t collect tax in all states,

If you have not paid your dues yet, please do so ASAP!! We are in the final
stages of foreclosing on a resident for nonpayment. Your HOA does not
want to do this but everyone must comply! If you have a problem, please

WHY SHOULD I PAY MY
HOA DUES ON TIME?
1. If you pay your dues by January 31 st you are OK!
2. After January 31 st , you will receive a certified 209 letter that will cost
you $25.
3. After March 1 st , a Demand Letter will be sent to you by the HOA lawyer.
This will cost you $95.
4. If you ignore the Demand Letter, a lien will be placed against your
house. This will cost you $210 to file plus a charge of $150 to inform you
of the lien and another $210 to remove it if you pay.
5. If you have ignored all the above, the HOA lawyer will send you a Last
Chance Letter at a cost to you of $523.
6. The next step is to file for foreclosure on your house. The fees run
around $2,500 and are charged to you and you lose your house!
7. At this point not paying can cost you a minimum $3,713 plus the
original dues of $1,265 if you decide to keep your house.
8. There is no reason to let the above happen! The HOA (832-600-4142)
can set you up on a payment plan and avoid the above from happening.
You can also pre pay for the next year.

NUTRITION SERVICES TEAM
OFFERS FREE SUMMER MEALS
Starting this summer, CFISD’s nutrition services department will offer
children 18 and younger the healthy Seamless Summer Option (SSO)
breakfasts and lunches at no cost to the child. “The SSO program is a
great way for us to provide access to meals for our students during the
summer months,” said Darin Crawford, director of nutrition services.
“Kids need good nutrition to fuel their summer activities and we are
thrilled to be able to continue to offer school meals during the long
summer break.” SSO is a U.S. Department of Agriculture nutrition
program and is administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture.
The meals offered through SSO give children who rely on school meals
during the academic year a good source of nutrition during the long
summer vacation. Summer meals help children return to school in the
fall ready to thrive.

CFISD STUDENTS RECORD PERFECT
SCORES ON ACT, SAT TESTS
A select group of CFISD rising juniors and seniors and two recent
graduates were among the notable high school students to earn the
highest possible composite scores on the ACT assessment and SAT
standardized tests over the last 12 months.
Cypress Creek High School rising junior Samhitha Bandi and rising senior
Hasan Abbasi, Cypress Woods High School rising senior Tristan Wiesepape
and Cy-Fair High School rising senior Yash Aggarwal and 2019 graduates
Stephanie Pickrell and Tate Ward all earned the top composite ACT score
of 36. In addition, Cypress Woods rising senior Angela Zhong earned the
highest possible score on the SAT, recording a perfect 1,600. Less than
two-tenths of 1 percent of all ACT test takers earn the top possible score.
For the SAT, of the more than 2.1 million test takers in the Class of 2018,
just seven percent scored a 1,400 or above. Many prepared by working
through practice exams and preparatory questions and scenarios. They
didn’t just focus on what they didn’t know right away, but also sections
that took them longer than others. Tutoring sessions and other resources
like Khan Academy, a non-profit online educational platform, helped
prepare students for the test format as well as the material. Taking both
tests within a few months of each other also helped in the process, as
material can be relevant to both exams even though the formats differ.
The ACT incudes five sections (English, math, reading, science and
writing), with each timed separately and the total exam taking 3 hours
and 35 minutes to finish. The SAT can take 3 hours and 50 minutes to
finish, as it includes five sections (reading, writing, math with and

without a calculator and an optional essay). Rising seniors took the ACT
in February during the school day, becoming a benchmark for some or a
desired achievement for others. As far as passing on any tips or advice to
other students preparing for the ACT and SAT, those who accomplished
the perfect scores say it ranges from managing stress leading into the
test days to simply practicing with sample questions and exams.
13 CFISD SCHOOLS NAMED TO
2018-2019 TEXAS HONOR ROLL
Thirteen CFISD schools have been named to the 2018-2019 Texas Honor
Roll, presented by the Educational Results Partnership (ERP). The ERP
recognizes public elementary, middle and high schools that demonstrate
high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in
achievement over time and reduction in achievement gaps. For high
schools, Honor Roll recognition includes measures of college readiness
in students. The following CFISD schools are among the 855 public
schools in Texas to be recognized:

Shop ‘til You Drop Marketplace is the Cy-Fair Women’s Club’s annual
fundraiser. It will be held at the Berry Center (8877 Barker Cypress,
Cypress, TX 77433) on Saturday, September 14 th . The doors will be open
to shoppers from 9 AM-5 PM. Our marketplace features more than 250
vendors and the Berry Center provides the ultimate in comfort for our

FUN RUN/WALK FOR HEROES
This Bridgeland Fun Run/Walk for Heroes will be held
October 19, 2018, at 8 AM at the Lakeland Village Festival
Park in Bridgeland in Cypress, TX.

and a 9 AM children’s 1K run thru the Bridgeland’s beautiful
parks & lakes along with booth & food vendors, a bouncy

wagons. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 male and
female 5K runners. Medals will be awarded to all children

Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County’s Disaster Recovery Repair
Program is assisting homeowners in the Northwest Harris County area who
have experienced damage from a disaster since August of 2017.
“As we continue to work in our community, we have realized there are still so
many who have unmet needs. We are continuing to serve families across the
county who have been effected by the devastating disasters since August 2017.”
Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County, Soleil
Watt, said. “After an outpouring of emails and phone calls from homeowners
who have shared their positive experience with us, we are so excited for this
program’s continuation.”

33 rd Annual AIA Sandcastle Competition - August 24, 2019, 10
AM-5 PM, East Beach, 1923 Boddeker Drive, Galveston, TX 77550. Free
admission, $15 Parking. The AIA SandCastle Competition is a fundraising
event for AIA Houston and ArCH Foundation as well as one of the
top five revenue generating events for the City of Galveston. This year
over 60 teams have their eyes and shovels set on winning the prestigious
Golden Bucket Award. Firms begin months in advance generating ideas,
developing designs and assigning duties. On the day of the event the
teams, stretched along the beachfront, meticulously sculpt their piles
of sand and work non-stop for five hours. The judging of the sculptures
is rated on originality of concept, artistic execution, technical difficulty,
carving technique and utilization of the site.
