THE DESIGN
The design reflects how a beehive operates using the different roles and functions of a bee. This idea relates to the site, as
airports rely on efficient systems of work flow. Bees are responsible for multiple roles that directly affect the efficiency of
how a hive operates. There are 4 main roles in a beehive: Worker bee, Royal bee, Forager bee, and the Pollinators. Worker
bees are seasoned business travelers that need a place to get work done. Royal bees are the staff members helping guests
with any questions and concerns. Forager bees are traveling to seek new opportunities like a new job or moving to a new
location. Pollinators are light travelers needing to relax while on vacation. All roles work together systematically to create
an efficient system that provides both work and pleasure. The goal is to provide a flexible and functional central gathering
location that is tailored for travelers of all types. This idea is further reinforced by the use of an earth toned color palette,
natural woods, and warm cove lighting as well as geometric shapes in the furniture, walls, flooring and ceiling decor.
ELEVATE
Denver, CO
CHALLENGE
To produce a condo design of my
dreams.
SOLUTION
A design based on the idea of elevation.
This concept is reinforced by the use of
materials to mirror different elevations
of a mountain range, such as earth,
snow, and sky.
Revit, Photoshop
THE DESIGN
The design for my dream condo is based on the
idea of elevation, as exemplified by the “Mile High
City” of Denver, CO. Denver’s elevation reaches
heights of more than one mile above sea level,
giving this robust state capital the nickname “Mile
High City”. This idea is fitting for me because I
have a calming but adventurous personality and
have always dreamed of living in elevation. The
site of this condo is in downtown Denver, and the
concept adopts this theme throughout the entire
space. To express this idea, the plan will reflect a
mountain view using color, pattern, and texture.
The open floor plan creates depth and room
to travel from one activity to the other, while
keeping the intimate spaces tucked away. The idea
is further reinforced by the use of materials to
mirror different elevations of a mountain range,
such as earth, snow, and sky. Darker materials
and colors will be used at the lowest elevation to
portray the earth. In the middle elevation, white
materials and soft textiles will be used to resemble
snow. At the highest elevation, blue details will be
used to mirror the sky.
FLOOR PLAN
SKY
Throughout the floor plan
the sky will be reflected in
the wall color, art, and soft
textiles in high elevation.
SNOW
In the floor plan, objects
between low and high elevation
will reflect the snow,
such as white marble, soft
furniture, and white rugs
EARTH
In lower elevation throughout
the floor plan the earth
will be mimicked as slate,
wood furniture, and dark
painted cabinetry.
SYSTEM of
COMMUNITIES
THE DESIGN
The first floor has a two car garage and a guest bed and bath. This layout gives the tenant a
flexible space for the needs of their family. The second floor consists of a kitchen, dining,
and living area in an open arrangement. This setup allows for community interaction and
easy circulation. The living area is extended out to a balcony that overlooks the city. The
third floor includes the master bedroom adjacent to another bedroom both conveniently
placed near the laundry room. The distance between the bedrooms allows for audible
privacy, yet quick access in case of emergency. This type of floor plan would be ideal for a
starter family.
