The Monastery Gallery of Art (MGA)
at Holy Family Passionist Retreat
Center unites the arts, creativity
and the sacred. We welcome works
from artists of all backgrounds
drawing on the wisdom of diverse
faith traditions. Through exhibitions
and educational programs, MGA
values and promotes all forms of art
that explore themes of compassion,
resilience, peacemaking, loving
kindness, social justice, and care for
others and our planet.

Nicholas Peter Scalise
(1932-2009) was a fine arts
artist whose career spanned
over 50 years. During that
time, he received more than
200 regional and national
awards and had more than
30 solo exhibits at galleries
and museums across the United States.

Enjoy a fun night of creative painting and a glass
of wine, too. You will take home a completed
canvas. No experience needed. This event is a
fundraiser for the MGA and includes materials,
wine and cheese. Offering: $50
James Spinelli is a painter,
assemblage and abstract
expressionist who utilizes
his creativity as a vehicle
to showcase his personal
life experiences. Jim is
committed to educating
adults and children alike
by offering them the opportunity to find their
voices. He believes that collectively, we can bring
positive change to our communities. Jim holds a
B.F.A. from Central Connecticut State University
and has exhibited and taught extensively
throughout New England.

media, then come together to critique and
exhibit. Their guiding principles include a
professional approach to the business of art, as
well as mutual respect, balanced with the joy of
making art.

Kathy Parulski is cocurator
of the Monastery
Gallery of Art and an
accomplished bookbinder
and book artist. Her
work ranges from the
restoration of family Bibles
to original book works
using metal edge binding and recycled materials.
She has taught adults and children throughout
New England and has exhibited extensively
in Connecticut. A certified Zentangle teacher
and former newspaper publisher, she holds a
graduate certificate in women’s spirituality from
the Women’s Leadership Institute at Hartford
Seminary.
