Blurring the lines between practicality
and high fashion is the shiny
mac. Liquid-like *synthetic surfaces
were key on the catwalks, giving the
classic raincoat a modern overhaul.
Flattering trench elements are combined
with super-shiny coatings,
creating unexpected juxtapositions.
Make a statement with coloured vinyl
– however, for a more commercial
feel use leather or PU.
For a braver offering, make like Calvin
Klein and sheer-smoke coloured plastics
over heritage checks to combine
the two hero fabrics of the season.
Designers blur the lines of fashion, function
and futurism via plasticised synthetics.
Technical materials hint at sportiness,
whilst grounding pieces with practicality.
Unexpected juxtapositions between waterproof
fabrics and feminine silhouettes underscore
a playful narrative. Ultra glossy, see-through,
bright-hued and printed surfaces imbue newness,
especially when layered atop knits and sheers.

WHISPERS
Knee length, double breasted,
patent vinyl coat. Features a notch
collar and long sleeves, with patch
pockets and belt at waist.
Technical weights take on a glossy quality for
a new look, communicating a new take on modernity
with a directional urban edge. Acrylic
coated synthetics and high-shine polyurethanes
update functional plains for coats, jackets and
leisure separates. Liquid enamel surfaces in
neutral and nude tones increase the laidback,
minimalistic appeal, while pixellated faux-skins
and micro-perforated bases appear hyperreal
and futuristic in high-octane silvery shimmer.
With retro influences a big reference, the perennial
trench gets a fabric update this season. Leather,
faux leather, vinyl and coated cottons weatherproof
the trend into winter. Leather trenches have
more than doubled in presence across UK and
US retailers, and while numbers remain relatively
small, their surge at retail and the familiarity of
the silhouette make them ones to watch for next
A/W. Luxe leathers and gloss finishes are aimed
at the premium and directional end of the market,
but consider matte finishes and faux leathers for
wider commercial value. Tobacco browns, burgundy
and dusty blues reinforce the retro aesthetic.

designers often look to paintings for creative inspiration.
Let’s explore how fashion designers have done magic on
garments from parallel art movements and art history for
their collections.
Fashion Designers are curious about shape and form , fascinated
by color, intrigued by social historical and cultural
references and therefore find themselves drawn to art galleries
, to museums , to artists studios and archives, and to
simply hang out with their contemporaries in the art world,
or other design disciplines. From architects and sculptors to
contemporary concept installation artists, the creative mind
comes in many forms, and often has varied influences.
