I absolutely loved my job. Writing the faith stories of others<br />
gave me a window into God’s creative and myriad methods of<br />
pursuing His people. From successful governors, congressmen,<br />
and athletes to hardworking men and women in a regular<br />
everyday circle, I discovered again and again that our God is<br />
ever present. The great takeaway was that those who live with<br />
the greatest sense of peace and purpose are those who recognize<br />
that God’s sovereignty knows no boundaries, and His love has<br />
no limits. Even when the road is rocky, His presence comforts<br />
and lights the path before us. He is not a neat little god that fits<br />
efficiently into the Sunday compartment of one's schedule. He<br />
invades all the parts of all our days. The God who gives breath<br />
so often pursues until He captures the whole heart.<br />
Every person’s story had its own vignettes—setting, scenes,<br />
circumstances and cast of characters. But in so many ways all<br />
those stories I got to tell were similar. Life can be brutal, but<br />
God is good. The Bible says, “As iron sharpens iron, so one<br />
person sharpens another” (Proverbs 27: 17).<br />
I know that is true. Those who shared their very personal<br />
stories with me took me to a deeper place in my own relationship<br />
with the Lord. As the years sailed by, God took me through a<br />
few trials of my own. I found encouragement by recalling those<br />
personal stories of others. Although knowing God did not erase<br />
all the hard things or cure all the hurt, the certainty of His<br />
presence gave me strength and hope to just keep putting one<br />
foot in front of the other every day. I knew I was not alone.<br />
When I eventually found myself on the other side of a trial,<br />
something in my heart was different. My relationship with<br />
