Step 3 Inventory This step is key but is often missed Make a list of all items with asking prices next to them. These prices are of course negotiable but it allows you to quickly and efficiently price everything in your own time. This list can also be printed out and handed to potential buyers on the day. It is useful to buyers that don’t get a chance to stop at your stall the first time round as this could encourage them to return. Step 4 Get a helper Help is important but you can do it alone It is important to enlist the help of a family member or friend. You may both be able to sell your goods and could even split the cost of the stall. This is especially important when setting up and of course if you need to take a much needed toilet break. With all of the above being said, if you can’t get help on the day, don’t let that put you off our members of staff are happy to assist. Step 5 Don’t forget the change Prepare a floatt Make sure you get change prior to the sale, as many buyers carry large notes. You could lose a sale if you don’t have the correct change. Prepare a float of around £25 which you can change into coins at any bank or large supermarket. Keep change in small bag that goes across the body or around the waist. This keeps your hands free and also keeps the money safe. If it has compartments to separate notes from coins then even better. 5
Step 7 Packing up Always (where possible) pack the car or bags the night before. This way you can always add forgotten or new found items in the morning. You do not want to leave it until the morning to pack, as you will be more likely to forget something. Leave things like the table/rail until last to pack (if not provided), as these are the first things you will remove from the car. You will find out just how important this is on the day as time is very limited and you want to be set up ASAP. Make sure (if using a rail) that all clothes are put on hangers in advance. Step 6 Print Handwrite signs Pre-write or print prices that will be displayed on your items. Printing or creating posters such as, “make me an offer”, grabs the potential buyers’ attention. Be fun and creative with the posters but not offensive. This will set you aside from the other sellers. 6 7
