Message from the CEO
The findings establish a valuable benchmark
for us, and will help us to attract, retain and
grow our team to better reflect the increasingly
diverse community of Tāmaki Makaurau. We
greatly valued the assessment and support
around understanding and developing our
cultural capability, and are excited to work
with the Superdiversity Institute to extend
a unique offering to the sector. We look
forward to keeping you posted on this exciting
development!
Solid and strategic governance is essential
if collectively we are to achieve the vision of
making Auckland the world’s most active city.
More than 50 National and Regional Sport
Organisation and Regional Sport Trust Chairs,
Board Members and Chief Executive Officers
(CEO) attended our Chairs’ Roundtable
on ‘The Chair – Chief Executive Officer’
Relationship.
Co-hosted by Aktive and Simpson Grierson
and supported by Sport New Zealand, the
event included a panel discussion with Liz
Coutts ONZM, professional director and
President of the NZ Institute of Directors; Steve
Tew, CEO of New Zealand Rugby; and Peter
Stubbs, professional director and Commercial
Lawyer. Communication, trust and respect
were highlighted by the panelists as crucial
success factors of the all-important Chair
– CEO relationship. A number of practical
tips to ensure effective communication and
information exchange were also shared.

sharing further updates on physical activity
opportunities for Auckland and Aucklanders.
