10 Aktive Annual Report 2013/2014 GOVERNANCE Mana whakahaere Aktive is governed by a six-member board that took over full responsibility from the Auckland Sport Establishment Board on October 23, 2013. Chair Raewyn Lovett is joined by trustees Graham Child, Eru Lyndon, Peter Meehan, Helen Robinson and Jo Wiggins who all bring a wealth of sport, business and governance experience to the table. Strategy The board has been heavily involved in setting Aktive’s strategic direction, participating with a broad range of stakeholders across the health, education, sport, recreation and local government sectors. A key tool in this engagement was a strategy workshop with senior decision-makers from these sectors. Informed by this workshop, a strategy sub-committee of Aktive’s full board, Aktive’s senior leadership team, and delegates from each Auckland RST plotted the organisation’s direction in the first strategic plan (2015-2020). Risk Aktive’s board takes seriously its obligation to identify and manage potential risk to the organisation or the wider sector. A risk register and a health and safety report form part of every meeting agenda and Aktive has taken a lead role in issuing a health and safety policy that meets the requirements of the draft new Health and Safety Reform Bill. Communication The Aktive Board believes in fostering relationships and engagement through transparent communication with stakeholders and delivery partners. Regular meetings are held with the chairs of local RSTs while at a broader level major stakeholders such as Sport New Zealand and Auckland Council regularly attend Aktive board meetings. Supplementing these two primary channels are one-on-one meetings with stakeholders along with the creation and distribution of papers and memoranda.
