“Many households,
by choice or necessity,
must function with two
working parents. That’s
the case for my family.
Running a business,
managing a home and
being a parent can be
difficult to handle. I’ve found letting go of guilt goes a long
way. Nobody’s perfect all the time, and we need to not sweat
the small stuff.”
“The other thing that helps with a dual-employed
household is stepping out of traditional roles. My husband
makes lunches and helps with dishes and other chores.
Whoever is available gets the job done. I encounter a lot of
single dads in my practice who are doing a great job raising kids.”
“Your kids eventually get to an age where their
schedules are as packed as yours! Grandparents can be a
great help. I also urge people to utilize extended family for
help if available.”
In the autumn of 2018,
best friends Mandi
Metzger and Nicole
Kringle saw an
opportunity to bless
their community by
creating a duo-family
owned and operated
business.
Capay’s Harvest in
Orland is a deli, bakery,
restaurant and gift shop. They
also offer fun cooking classes,
painting, sign-making and wreathmaking
classes.
The two husband and wife
partners do a bit of everything from
flipping burgers to payroll and
marketing. Their kids also help out.
These families know that running
Capay’s is teaching their children to
love others tangibly.
The business also gives food to local
families in need and donates food to
local churches. They offer milk & cookies every
Thursday for story time, burger nights, car shows
and even stage outdoor movie nights.
All together, they are making lasting
memories with the community they love.
Dance brings so much joy, confidence
and happiness into my life and I want to
share that with others. I love kids, I love
teaching and I love being a part of the
positive in someone’s life!
Working together as a family allows us
to spend time together striving to make the
world a better place. Both my boys have
danced, and they help with events, cleaning
the studios and some construction. I want
them to see that hard work is essential,
being humble is a must, giving back to the
community is important, and striving for
excellence helps us grow as humans.
For the past 24 years, we have provided
lessons for dance, ballroom dance,
gymnastics, aerial silks and tumbling.
We love to host birthday parties and
bachelorette parties. We do offer
workshops throughout the year where we
bring masters in to teach. We also bring
dance lessons to schools.
We started a campaign called “Athletes
Don’t Vape,” educating the community
about the harmful effects of vaping.
We consider this more than a studio we
consider it a safe place where our students
can be themselves. We want them to learn life
lessons here, helping them be the best they
can be to have a successful, fulfilling life!!
It was with a love
for all things “family”
and a passion for
sharing nurturing
ideas for children that
I began North State
Mamapreneur
NORTH STATE
Parent (originally Shasta Parent) in 1993. My vision
was to inform families about their local resources and
encourage networking.
The magazine successfully helps people find fun
shops, educational outings, medical professionals, local
foods and amazing services.
We present the North State as a single region by
publishing five counties worth of information each
month—this means greater strength when disasters
strike as neighboring counties help each other.
There is much to do and see throughout the North
State. The driving is easy and quite beautiful. We support
each county as a recreational adventure to be taken!
Twenty-five years ago, we were a staff of three. I
worked mostly in the evenings with my children playing
Legos under the light table while I planned out the
magazines. Now I’m mother of four grown sons, five
step-grandsons and yearning for grand babies. The
magazine has a robust staff. Our designer Marc and main
team members Marjie, Kelsey and Kate in sales. Our
calendar editor Rosalyn. We have Deb, Lisa and Carolyn
in editorial. We also have Amanda, Andrew and John in
distribution.
It’s amazing the kind of community-building
that can take place within the medium of a parenting
magazine! If North State Parent has been helpful to you,
please get in touch and let us know! We measure our
value through you, our readers.
