Introduction<br />
Prof. Datin Paduka Dato’ Dr. Aini binti Ideris<br />
has been the 8th Vice Chancellor of UPM since<br />
January 1, 2016. She served as the Deputy<br />
Vice Chancellor of Academic and International<br />
at Universiti Putra Malaysia from December<br />
2008 to 2013. She graduated with a Doctor<br />
of Veterinary Medicine degree (1979) from<br />
Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (UPM), currently<br />
known as Universiti Putra Malaysia, MVSc in<br />
Avian Medicine (1981) from the University of<br />
Liverpool, United Kingdom, and PhD in Avian<br />
Medicine (1989) from UPM. She continued<br />
with post-doctoral training at the University of<br />
California, Davis, (1990-1992), and at Cornell<br />
University, United States of America (1993),<br />
under Asian Development Bank Fellowship.<br />
She has extensive administrative experience<br />
as she held several administrative positions,<br />
such as 9 years as the Deputy Dean Faculty of<br />
Veterinary Medicine, and 8 years as the Dean<br />
of School of Graduate Studies.<br />
She gives lectures, conduct practical classes and<br />
provides clinical training. She is actively involved in<br />
research, studies on development of conventional and<br />
genetically engineered vaccines as well as in professional<br />
associations. Her research interest is in avian respiratory<br />
and immunosuppressive diseases which has led to the<br />
development and commercialisation of Newcastle disease<br />
and fowl pox vaccines. She is also the co-researcher for<br />
infectious bursal disease vaccine. These vaccines are<br />
being sold in 19 countries. She plays an important role<br />
in poultry health education, training and research, aiding<br />
