Harris County requires that all pets be on a leash or confined within your
yard. Unleashed dogs are a nuisance to your neighbors and other pets.
Please pick up all dog waste and dispose of it properly. Remember, our
children play in the park areas and their yards. It’s very inconsiderate of
you to allow your dog to defecate if others yards and the parks. When
walking your dogs, please be prepared to remove any waste they may
leave behind.
StreetLight Outage
CenterPoint Energy depends on the assistance of customers to help
identify streetlights in need of repair. If you notice a streetlight outage or
a streetlight on during daylight hours, visit CenterPoint Energy’s website
https://slo.centerpointenergy.com to report the issue. You may also call
713-207-2222 to report an outage.
When reporting a streetlight in need of repair, it is important to provide
the following:

Concord Bridge Services
Services in Concord Bridge are provided by two different municipal utility
districts. Areas covered and service providers are shown below. The
overhead power lines running north and south through the subdivision is
the dividing line between the MUD district responsibilities. The two trash
collection companies observe different holidays. Please note if a holiday
falls on a regular trash collection day, the trash will be picked up the next
SCHEDULED day, NOT the next day. Please do not place your trash out
until the correct day.
If you have a manhole cover in your yard, driveway or sidewalk and it is
causing problems, please contact your Municipal District Services, LLC,

Caramel Pecan Delight

Ingredients
1 (16 ounce) package pecan cookies, crushed
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 (12 ounce) jar caramel ice cream topping, divided
1 1/2 cups cold milk
1 (5.1 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
3/4 cup chopped pecans
Festive Foods for Halloween
Here are some simple ways to spice up everyday foods:
1. Put a licorice straw into the breakfast orange juice and pack an orangedyed
hard-boiled egg in the lunch box.
2. Make American cheese the sandwich of the day and cut a pumpkin
shape onto the top slice of bread.
3. Poke cloves into an orange to make a smiling pumpkin face - or just
draw one on with a marking pen.
DIrections
In a bowl, combine cookie crumbs and butter. Press into a greased 13-in.
x 9-in. x 2-in. baking dish. Bake at 375 degrees F for 10 minutes. Cool on
a wire rack.
In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and 1/2 cup caramel topping
until smooth. In a bowl, whisk milk and pudding mix for 2 minutes; fold
into cream cheese mixture. Spread over the cooled crust. Sprinkle with
pecans. Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours. Cut into squares;
drizzle with remaining caramel topping.

Ingredients
4 (1 ounce) squares semisweet chocolate, chopped
1 cup butter
1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
1 3/4 cups white sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups chopped pecans
DIrections
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Line 24 muffin cups with
paper liners. In the top of a double boiler, combine chocolate and butter.
Heat, stirring occasionally, until mixture is melted and smooth. Remove
from heat and allow to cool to lukewarm.
Sift flour and sugar together into a large bowl. With mixer on low speed,
beat in eggs one at a time. Stir in chocolate mixture, vanilla and pecans.
Fill muffin cups 2/3 full.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Do not overbake. Tops should
be shiny but give slightly when touched. Add your favorite frosting!

Gardening Tips For October
• Dig and store caladiums before the foliage dies. Allow the bulbs to dry
in the shade, shake off the dried soil and dust with sulphur to control
fungus. Store by hanging in open mesh bags or old panty hose.
• Flowers planted for spring can begin when the temperatures are going
to stay cooler. Shrubs and trees can be planted now. Woody plants
concentrate on root growth through the winter and the more headstart
they can get before summer, the better.
• October 15th is about the time for dividing and planting daylilies.
• Watch out for brown patch in St. Augustine grass. These circular brown
patches are caused by a fungus that is activated by moist cool weather.
Control with Daconil.
• If you need to do any pruning, do it early in the month. The re-growth
stimulated by pruning needs to harden off before that odd-ball frost of
Halloween. Prune fruit trees when leaves begin to fall. Remove all dead,
weak and over-crowded growth. Tip back main branches to control size
and shape. Spray w/dormant oil when temperature is between 30-60
degrees.
• Cut back tops of perennials after they have bloomed. Divide roots and
transplant anytime from now until March, the earlier the better.
• Get the ant baits down. This will greatly reduce your spring populations.
• Clover left over from last year may be growing. It’s best to hit it with
the post-emerge herbicides in October and November. At least two
applications are usually needed, even if done this early.
• For color throughout the winter, begin planting pansies.

What is this Holiday for? This holiday is for celebrating and enjoying
a day of golf. So let this holiday be the day you play a game of golf or at
least have some fun learning about the game. This day is actually a big
day for a charitable event sponsored by the PGA every year. The 4 th has
been held for charity since 1952.
Who celebrates this holiday? Everyone who loves the game of golf! This
game is played all over the world.
What is Golf? Golf is a game in which a player, using many types of clubs
including a driver, a putter and irons, hits a ball into each hole on a golf
course in the lowest possible number of strokes. Golf is one of the few ball
games that does not use a standardized playing area; rather, the game
is played on golf “courses,” each one of which has a unique design and
typically consists of either 9 or 18 holes. Golf is defined in the Rules of Golf as
“playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke
or successive strokes in accordance with the Rules.” The first game of golf
for which records survive was played at Bruntsfield Links, in Edinburgh,
Scotland, in A.D. 1456, recorded in the archives of the Edinburgh Burgess
Golfing Society, now The Royal Burgess Golfing Society. The modern game
of golf spread from Scotland to England and has now become a worldwide
game, with golf courses in the majority of countries.
Golf Etymology The word Golf was first mentioned in writing in 1457 on a
Scottish statute on forbidden games as gouf, possibly derived from the Scots
word goulf (variously spelled) meaning “to strike or cuff.” This word may, in turn,
be derived from the Dutch word kolf, meaning “bat” or “club” and the Dutch sport
of the same name. It is often claimed that the word originated as an acronym for
“gentlemen only, ladies forbidden,” but this is strictly a false etymology.
World Golf Popularity In 2005, Golf Digest calculated that there were
nearly 32,000 golf courses in the world, approximately half of them in
the United States. The countries with most golf courses in relation to
population, starting with the best endowed were: Scotland, New Zealand,
Australia, Ireland, Canada, Wales, United States, Sweden and England
(countries with fewer than 500,000 people were excluded). Apart from
Sweden, all of these countries have English as the majority language,
but the number of courses in new territories is increasing rapidly. For
example the first golf course in the People’s Republic of China opened in
the mid-1980s, but by 2005 there were 200 courses in that country.

WALKS/RUNS
BRIDGELAND FUN RUN/WALK FOR HEROES
This Bridgeland Fun Run/Walk for Heroes will be held October 19, 2018,
at 8 AM at the Lakeland Village Festival Park in Bridgeland in Cypress, TX.
Please register for the event at bit.ly/heroesfunrun2019.eventbrite.com.
The event will include an 8 AM 5K walk/run and a 9 AM children’s 1K
run thru the Bridgeland’s beautiful parks & lakes along with booth &
food vendors, a bouncy house, a rock climbing wall, entertainment
and activities for the children. The children’s walk is open to strollers
and wagons. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 male and female 5K
runners. Medals will be awarded to all children under 10. 1 st , 2 nd & 3 rd
place prizes will be awarded to the winners of the Children’s Super Hero
Costume Contest.
Make Sure You Honor your Military Hero by giving us the name of the
veteran or active service member you would like to honor and we will
create signs along the race course to honor their service.
The Race is sponsored by The Bridgeland Community Supports Veterans,
Inc., which is raising funds to support veterans, educate our children and
build a Veterans Memorial in Bridgeland.
9 TH ANNUAL FAIRFIELD TRIATHLON
Sunday October 27, 2019, 7 AM start
The triathlon features both a triathlon and a duathlon for participants.
Triathletes will swim 300 meters in North Bradford Lake. Then ride a ten
mile bike course followed by a three mile run along the trails of Fairfield.
Duathletes will start with a one mile run around both Bradford Lakes,
then a ten mile bike followed by the same three mile run course as the
triathletes.
All participants will receive dry fit shirts, finisher medals, age group
awards, post-race party with refreshments and a finish line photo.
Individuals will compete for awards in five-year age groups.
The race site is located in Cypress, Texas in the Fairfield Community.
Headquarters is the Fairfield Athletic Center on Mason Road with the race
site just up the street at the lake.
The event accepts both individual entries and relays. Relays consist
of three athletes with each doing one segment of the race. There is
a minimum age of twelve years of age to compete in the event. The
event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon and will follow their rules and
guidelines.

This comes in time for the new growing season and allows fellow
gardeners to discover new varieties and share knowledge and resources.
Below are the guidelines for the exchange.
1. All seeds should be in an envelope or plastic bag marked with the
plant variety and date of harvest or sell by date. All plants should be in
containers and labeled. Bulb’s should be in bags and labeled.
2. No GMO or hybrids are allowed. Do not bring sickly plants or plants with bugs
3. If bringing bulk seeds have it clearly labeled. Only 20 to 30 seeds per
person, labels and plastic seed bags will be provided.
4. You can either exchange or if you have excess plants or seeds you can
share.
5. Please only take the amount of seeds or plants that you bring.
6. People who did not bring seeds or plants are limited to 2 items either
plant or seeds.

WINGS OVER HOUSTON SET FOR OCTOBER 19 TH -20 TH
One of the most popular events for kiddos is at Ellington Airport: CAF Wings
Over Houston. One of the top air shows in the United States, this event is
dedicated to showcasing vintage World War II aircraft, along with the thrills
of modern aviation. The event has supported a variety of local and national
charities during its 35-year history. General admission tickets at the gate are

to come hear unique Texas ghost stories - including some tales from right here

The Shape of Things: Michael Craig-Martin at Discovery Green - Thru
November 3, 2019, 6 AM-11:55 PM, Discovery Green, Labranch at Lamar,
Houston, TX 77010. Free admission. This is the first exhibition of the Craig-
Martin’s sculptures to be seen in Texas and only the second venue in the United
States. Six sculptures ranging from 8 to 12 feet high depict everyday objects such
as an umbrella, a wheelbarrow, a light bulb, a shoe. These larger-than-life works
are playful and evocatively simple. The works are showcased around the park’s
Kinder Lake and are on view during park hours.
The FOMO Factory - Daily through December 31, 2019, 10 AM-9 PM, The
Houston Galleria, 5085 Westheimer Road, Suite 4710, Houston, TX 77056.

are free. This buzzed-about pop up will become The Galleria’s first foray
into immersive entertainment with 17 rainbow-colored rooms of fun. The
