In my mind when the action of a criminal tramp on the rights of a law-abiding citizen, the criminal should no longer be protected by the charter. The way it seems to work now is that the rights of the perpetrator take precedence over that of the victim. Trudeau’s gun control solution is simplistic. If he wants to get rid of gun violence on the street he has to get rid of the gangs and that would require laws with real teeth. HEA MH9BX The Ultimate Car Jack and Support System Geologist visits Theresetta school by K. Smawley Steven Hill, who is a trained geologist, came to visit the Grade 3/4 science class on Oct. 4. He brought in multiple rock samples and fossils to show the class. He also helped the students identify the rock samples that they had collected themselves. Hill explained the different types of rocks and showed the students what to look for when identifying rocks. Awards night Theresetta hosted their annual Awards Ceremony on Thurs. Sept. 26 where students accomplishments from the previous year are celebrated. Each student receives a personal award based on their accomplishments from the year before. There are also overall academic awards, athletic awards, fine arts awards and most improved reading awards all handed out that night. Feast Day Feast Day of St. Therese of Lisieux at Theresetta was held on Thurs. Oct. 3 and the Grade 9 class did a great job putting on a skit to mark the day and remind the students about her remarkable life. It is because of her that our school always remembers the motto of ‘do little things with great love’. Making a difference Mr. Ries and Miss Smawley took a dozen students to Stettler on Mon. Sept. 30 for the Federal Election Candidates Forum. Three Theresetta students asked a question to the candidates at the open mic. Being able to see democracy happening is always such a good experience for the students and being able to participate in a forum is a great way to learn about the democratic system we are lucky to have here in Canada. The Grade 5 to Grade 9 students had a visit from Damien Kurek, Conservative Party of Canada Candidate for the Battle River- Crowfoot riding in the upcoming federal election, on Wed. Sept. 25. The students heard from Damien not only about his run to possibly become our Member of Parliament, but also about his extensive life journey in politics. He shared with the students what inspired him to get involved in politics at such a young age, and what he has been doing to make a difference throughout his career so far. It was a great experience for the students to see someone so young, yet so passionate, involved in democracy and hopefully gave them some inspiration for a possible career down the road.
