Edgerton Fire
Department hosts
wildland course
Terri Huxley
ECA Review
Just in time for Fire Prevention
Week, twenty firefighters from the
National Defence Fire Services,
Paradise Valley, Irma, Provost and
Edgerton fire departments participated
in a regional wildland course
over a two week period.
They wrote their exams and did
their practical skills evaluations for
the NFPA 1051 wildland course on
Sun. Oct. 6.
The course was hosted in
Edgerton at the Ribstone Creek
Brewery.
The individuals worked hard,
learned much, and gave their weekends
in dedication to their
respective fire departments and
communities.
Edgerton Fire Chief Jon Koroluk
was thoroughly impressed by the
commitment and professionalism
the group displayed.
“Myself as well as all of the chiefs
at the other fire departments that
attended are beyond proud of all the
members that took time away from
their families and their own lives to
attend this training,” said Koroluk.
“What impressed me was – and I
feel I am speaking on behalf of all
the chiefs who had firefighters
attend – the people that we have
representing our fire departments
are the cream of their communities.
They are the ones that seem to rise
to the top,” he said.
On scene were instructors who
prepared the outstanding calibre of
their instruction and the course
evaluator who upheld the strict and
untainted professional standards
these departments champion.
The Garden’s Edge Cafe and the
Edgerton Oasis Hotel catered
lunches while Dobie Diaries
Photography captured the live fire
training.
Canada’s Fire Prevention Week is
from Sun. Oct. 6 to Sat. Oct. 12.
FireSmart principles
for rural areas
Fire Prevention Week, observed to
commemorate the Great Chicago Fire
of 1871, gives individuals, families
and communities a chance to learn
more about staying safe in case of a
fire.
Here in the Special Areas, wildfires
– specifically grassfires – have
become more frequent and more
destructive.
To help residents learn more about
staying safe from grassfires, a new
public education campaign is being
launched this fall which shares
FireSmart principles and fire prevention
techniques for rural farm sites
and residences.
