Blacklight Dance
a chance for LTHS
freshmen to bond
Mary Compton
Freelance Reporter
With a few months of
high school under their
belts, freshmen students
at Lockport Township
High School let down
their walls and danced
the night away during the
second Blacklight Dance.
The event took place
Friday, Nov. 1, at LTHS’s
Central Campus.
“We’re in charge of
homecoming activities
and this dance, which is
the main event for freshmen,”
explains Sarah
Weimer, who is an English
teacher and freshman
class council co-sponsor.
“It’s always been a start
of school dance in August,
but with all the Friday
night home football
games, we changed it to
November.”
Walking in the cafeteria,
one could feel the
excitement as several
freshmen were dancing,
playing giant Jenga and
taking photos with props
in front of a glow in the
dark backdrop.
“This is a freshmen
only dance,” said Elizabeth
Meister, who is a
math teacher and freshman
co-sponsor at the
Lockport high school
freshman center. “This
dance has been around
for a while, which started
out being called the White
Out Dance.”
“This is our second
year of co-sponsoring
it” Weimer said. “We
changed the name to
Blacklight Dance because
we thought it was more
true to the dance theme.
The idea for this dance
was to do something social
and meet other freshmen.
Now that we have it
