Mission Statement<br />
<strong>Varsity</strong> <strong>Monthly</strong> <strong>Thumb</strong> Area (“VMTA”) is dedicated to the recognition and advancement <strong>of</strong> high<br />
school athletics in Michigan’s <strong>Thumb</strong> region. VMTA, created in 2014, is a monthly sports magazine,<br />
which displays achievements <strong>of</strong> local high school athletes, primarily through high quality photography.<br />
At the heart <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Varsity</strong> <strong>Monthly</strong> mission is the support <strong>of</strong> local students, and our high school athletic<br />
departments, in an effort to preserve physical health, competition through sport, and the development <strong>of</strong><br />
strong, well-rounded future leaders. Our various pr<strong>of</strong>essional photographers attend games and/or events<br />
in each <strong>of</strong> the 17 communities that we cover, each month. We then display these photographs <strong>of</strong> as many<br />
athletes as possible, through our monthly publication, website and facebook page. VTMA highlights a<br />
male and female standout athlete each month on our “Players <strong>of</strong> the Month” page. We are joined in this<br />
awesome mission by a wealth <strong>of</strong> local businesses who support our youth by advertising in our publication,<br />
on the page/s <strong>of</strong> their selected locality. The magazine would not be possible without these great<br />
supporters and ask that you keep our advertising customers in mind for your local business needs. We<br />
display the advertisements in the magazine, on our website and on our facebook page to provide them<br />
with maximum exposure. We also award a customer each month with our “Advertiser <strong>of</strong> the Month,”<br />
providing local business owners with an opportunity to reflect on the impact <strong>of</strong> high school athletics in<br />

Players Of The Month<br />
Zach Jacobs had some big shoes to fill this year after becoming the go-to <strong>of</strong>fensive<br />
option for the Frankenmuth football team. Even though he was asked to switch positions,<br />
the senior has proven he is up to the task. Jacobs, who made the move from running back<br />
to quarterback, has led the Eagles on the stat sheet, and more importantly,<br />
on the field. Jacobs leads ‘muth in rushing yards, touchdowns,<br />
and recently led the Eagles to a Tri-Valley Conference East<br />
championship – their sixth in a row.<br />
With a 55-0 win over Caro on Friday, Oct. 13, Frankenmuth improved<br />
to 6-0 in league play and 8-0 overall. In the most recent AP<br />
rankings before the <strong>October</strong> issue <strong>of</strong> <strong>Varsity</strong> <strong>Monthly</strong> <strong>Thumb</strong> Edition<br />
went to print, the Eagles were ranked No. 2 in Division 5.<br />
With stars like Jared Davis, Grant Bronner and Kris Roche providing<br />
big plays all year, Jacobs wasn’t the first option for Frankenmuth<br />
a year ago. But he put in his time and is now the focal point <strong>of</strong><br />
the team’s <strong>of</strong>fense. After Week 8 <strong>of</strong> the season, Jacobs was leading<br />
the Eagles with 783 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns. He also has<br />
thrown for 658 yards and 10 touchdowns. Those totals could be a lot Zach Jacobs<br />
higher, but with Frankenmuth winning its games by an average <strong>of</strong> 25 points, most starters<br />
only play three quarters. Last year, the Eagles advanced all the way to the semifinals <strong>of</strong><br />
the state play<strong>of</strong>fs, so Jacobs and his teammates hope there is a lot more season left in <strong>2017</strong>.<br />
Zach is hoping to play at the next level for a GLIAC school. Best <strong>of</strong> luck Zach!<br />
For years, Cameryn Brown has been a familiar site in Caro’s Don Stamats Gymnasium.<br />
Now a senior, Brown is taking steps to insure she will be remembered. With her booming<br />
spikes, Brown, who is also a standout in basketball, is helping the Caro volleyball team to<br />
one <strong>of</strong> its best seasons in recent memory. The Caro front line has been manned by a pair <strong>of</strong><br />
athletic seniors, Brown and McKenzie Smith. And with big hitters, come big wins. The Tigers<br />
are 17-13-5 as <strong>of</strong> Oct. 13, and 2-2 in the Tri-Valley Conference East.<br />
Brown has 191 kills, to Smith’s team-leading 203, but has<br />
connected on 37.7 percent <strong>of</strong> her attempts, double the rate <strong>of</strong><br />
any <strong>of</strong> her teammates with at least 20 attempts. The middle hitter<br />
also leads the team in blocks, with 60.<br />
With state-power North Branch, and always-tough Frankenmuth<br />
in the league, TVC-East titles can be difficult to come by<br />
for the remainder <strong>of</strong> the conference. But Brown and teammates<br />
are making sure the <strong>2017</strong> season lays a foundation for future<br />
Caro volleyballers.<br />
Cam plans on playing volleyball at the next level, but has<br />
yet to decide which college she will attend. She will join her<br />

elite travel squad for this winter season as well. Cam is<br />
interested in a career in the medical field.<br />
