Players Of The Month Zach Jacobs had some big shoes to fill this year after becoming the go-to offensive option for the Frankenmuth football team. Even though he was asked to switch positions, the senior has proven he is up to the task. Jacobs, who made the move from running back to quarterback, has led the Eagles on the stat sheet, and more importantly, on the field. Jacobs leads ‘muth in rushing yards, touchdowns, and recently led the Eagles to a Tri-Valley Conference East championship – their sixth in a row. With a 55-0 win over Caro on Friday, Oct. 13, Frankenmuth improved to 6-0 in league play and 8-0 overall. In the most recent AP rankings before the October issue of Varsity Monthly Thumb Edition went to print, the Eagles were ranked No. 2 in Division 5. With stars like Jared Davis, Grant Bronner and Kris Roche providing big plays all year, Jacobs wasn’t the first option for Frankenmuth a year ago. But he put in his time and is now the focal point of the team’s offense. After Week 8 of the season, Jacobs was leading the Eagles with 783 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns. He also has thrown for 658 yards and 10 touchdowns. Those totals could be a lot Zach Jacobs higher, but with Frankenmuth winning its games by an average of 25 points, most starters only play three quarters. Last year, the Eagles advanced all the way to the semifinals of the state playoffs, so Jacobs and his teammates hope there is a lot more season left in 2017. Zach is hoping to play at the next level for a GLIAC school. Best of luck Zach! For years, Cameryn Brown has been a familiar site in Caro’s Don Stamats Gymnasium. Now a senior, Brown is taking steps to insure she will be remembered. With her booming spikes, Brown, who is also a standout in basketball, is helping the Caro volleyball team to one of its best seasons in recent memory. The Caro front line has been manned by a pair of athletic seniors, Brown and McKenzie Smith. And with big hitters, come big wins. The Tigers are 17-13-5 as of Oct. 13, and 2-2 in the Tri-Valley Conference East. Brown has 191 kills, to Smith’s team-leading 203, but has connected on 37.7 percent of her attempts, double the rate of any of her teammates with at least 20 attempts. The middle hitter also leads the team in blocks, with 60. With state-power North Branch, and always-tough Frankenmuth in the league, TVC-East titles can be difficult to come by for the remainder of the conference. But Brown and teammates are making sure the 2017 season lays a foundation for future Caro volleyballers. Cam plans on playing volleyball at the next level, but has yet to decide which college she will attend. She will join her Cameryn Brown elite travel squad for this winter season as well.
