Paul Hudson was determined to get his hands on one of Keeley’s Kitties
and he’d been hanging around her stall all weekend. But, even
with the promise of a prize every time, he still hadn’t managed to
win anything. Keeley wasn’t doing him any favours either, she was
known to be hard but fair and it it wasn’t her fault that the hooking
stick was too heavy for him.

Local residents have come together at the Freedom Centre on Preston
Road to knit and crochet poppies as part of their annual acts of
remembrance, with enough made to create a poppy cascade, a poppy
wall and a number of knitted wreaths. The display joins “Tommy”,
a silhouette donated by building supply firm MKM Ltd, standing
watch over the entrance to the Centre, and will take pride of place
when the students of Archbishop Sentamu Academy perform a free
remembrance play on Monday 11th November at 4.30pm, with
everyone everywhere welcome to come along.
Visitors to the Centre, owned by local charity The Freedom Community
Trust, are already speculating about how many poppies there
are. Those keen to find out will have to wait a while longer as the
Centre will run a competition in aid of the Royal British Legion to
guess the number of poppies for a chance to win two
tickets to the Freedom Centre Christmas Concert on
the afternoon of December 5th.

Jennifer Gilmour is a domestic abuse survivor and
has received an award for using social media for
good with The UK & European Social Media Marketing
Awards 2019. The SMM awards recognise
the best campaigns, individuals and tools in Social
Media Marketing.
Jennifer is an author and advocate for women in
abusive relationships, using her own experiences as
a catalyst to bring awareness and to help others.
Jennifer has two publications, Isolation Junction
and Clipped Wings which have both been Amazon

Best Sellers and received awards.
I was in shock when my name was announced, I am honestly
honoured to win an award that recognises using social media for good. I felt like I was
representing all those who have experienced domestic abuse. Together we are louder.

A committee of Fishmerchants based in Hull were delighted to present Dove House Hospice with
£500 recently and in doing so, took their fundraising total to over £10,000 for the Hull based charity.
Known as the Hull Fish Merchants
Dance Committee, they work hard
each year to host an annual Charity
Ball, often featuring a well-known
tribute act to entertain their guests.
Next year sees the Hull Fish Merchants
celebrate their 92nd anniversary
ball take place on 14th Feb
2020. Featuring UK tribute act Rod
Stewart and his band The Faces,
the evening will feature many of
his hits at Willerby Manor Hotel.
