6 NOVEMBER/DECEMBER WOMEN IN CARWASH PROFILE ww In the future, I’d like to expand our consulting business as well as have several full-service locations. I plan to continue to practice law in the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia, where I’m barred. However, I like to change the face of the carwash industry to one that provides ample opportunities for women to excel in all roles and areas. The advice I’d give others about joining the industry is to immerse yourself in it and take advantage of networking opportunities. Joining Facebook groups, touring sites, and participating in events put on by local organizations has taught me so much about the industry. Women in carwash Arlington, Texas January 20 – 22, 2020 Sheraton Hotel Megan O’Connor My name is Megan O’Connor. I’m an attorney who practices business and employment law, as well as a co-owner of a carwash consulting company called That Car Wash/That Car Wash Consulting (www.thatcarwash.com). When it comes to the consulting side of the business, I help our team offer consults to carwash locations across the country on topics of a company and legal nature. The team often looks to me to provide answers regarding employee handbooks, employee workplace issues, contracts, and customer complaints. I got into the carwash industry through my two partners, Michael McGinnis and Ian Depinto. They are operators who have more than a decade of collective experience in the full and flex service carwash arena. All three of us grew up together in a small town in Maryland. They asked me to join their team when they decided to leave their former employer and branch out on their own. At first, I was skeptical, but after learning a lot about the industry, I decided that I enjoy it nearly as much as I enjoy practicing law! We are looking to open our first full-service physical location in the next year or so. From my experience, the number one complaint from women in the industry is that they aren’t given the same opportunities for advancement as their male counterparts. That’s an issue we hope to help tackle through our consulting services. When we provide advice to other carwashes, we encourage them to seek out and promote talented women in all roles within the industry! DRY T-SHIRT PROMOTIONAL CONTEST! All of this, along with th e professionalism on display throughout this event, offers a definite value-add for anyone attending.” – Amy Cantin, Zep “It was much more intimate and personable than other conferences and seminars I have been to.
