Fancy sending Christmas cards with a local twist this<br />
<strong>December</strong>? Greetings cards designed by Standish<br />
residents and businesses are on sale at Standish<br />
Library for just £5 per pack, which will help fundraise<br />
for the Friends of Standish Library.<br />
Orders must be made before Sunday, <strong>December</strong> 1 at<br />
the library.<br />
Winter Warmers<br />
Help keep homeless people warm this winter by<br />
donating knitted or crocheted squares, helping to<br />
sew them together, or providing hats, scarves, gloves<br />
and socks.<br />
The BFTH <strong>Wigan</strong> Pod are looking for anyone to assist<br />
in making winter woollies for local homeless people,<br />
along with any supplies that might help craft them.<br />
They meet on the second Saturday of the month<br />

In Bloom<br />
This year’s RHS Britain In Bloom Awards have been<br />
announced: and the <strong>Wigan</strong> borough was bloomin’<br />
brilliant.<br />
Shevington Memorial Park was awarded the Gold<br />
Award in the National Distinction for Parks, while<br />
organisation Edible Appley Bridge was awarded a<br />
Level 4 (Thriving) award.<br />
Meanwhile, <strong>Wigan</strong> & Leigh Hospice’s garden<br />
achieved a Level 5 (Outstanding), and Orrell Station<br />
was awarded the much-coveted Best Railway Station<br />
in the North West award after putting in more<br />
than 1,600 hours of work. Haigh Woodland Park<br />
also achieved a Silver Gilt Award for Large Tourist<br />
Attraction.<br />
