Style Magazine: December 2019

For those still searching for the perfect present to gift someone (or yourself) this season, it’s your lucky day. In this month’s Holiday Gift Guide (page 45), we have 50+ ideas for all—including a pie-making class at Newcastle’s North Fork Chai Co., plaid flannel PJs for your pup (sold at pet boutique, Posh Puppy, in Rocklin), and the most stylish stockings I’ve ever seen (available at Placerville’s Brass + Oak). The best part? The majority of our picks are available at local retailers or made by area artisans. I know Amazon is convenient, but I strongly urge you to support the mom-and-pop places that make our community thrive; plus, most of the featured stores offer online shopping too, so you can purchase from the comfort of your crib! If a Christmas vacation is calling you, turn to page 64 for five places—all a short drive away—that are particularly pleasing this time of year. For each destination, Heather L. Nelson offers suggestions on where to eat and sleep, plus info on can’t-miss holiday happenings. There’s plenty more Christmassy content in the pages that follow, so pour yourself a glass of robust red (on page 90, we share four of our favorites!) and get into the season with Style. See you next year! — Megan // megan@stylemg.com @meggoeggowaffle

Dina Gentry
Dina Gentry, communications
director for the El Dorado County
Office of Education (EDCOE),
speaks with a confidence and
professionalism that is well
earned. Last July, she was
honored by the National School
Public Relations Association in
Washington D.C. with their “35
Under 35” award—a national
accolade that seeks to empower
young leaders in public school
communications by recognizing
their dedication. The group
exchanged best practices,
leadership skills, and strategies to
help each other become stronger
and empower other school
communicators. “It was an outof-body
experience,” says Gentry.
“Being in our nation’s capital...there
was such a sense of promise.”
In her public relations work,
Gentry provides support to
county programs and school
districts through positive PR,
community engagement, crisis
communications, and more.
Her professional goals are to
continue to make a positive impact,
grow as a leader, empower others,
make organizations stronger, and
perhaps one day write a book.
Gentry also serves on several
nonprofit committees, including
president-elect, Sierra Community
Access Channel 2, the El Dorado
County Chamber of Commerce’s
Leadership El Dorado Program, and
Association (CalSPRA).
Some parting words of wisdom
from this young leader? “Don’t
spread yourself too thin trying
to be everything to everybody.
Choose your top priority.”
—Domino Soleil
