CORPORATE CULTURE
At TLC, we challenge each other to think boldly, listen attentively, and create
passionately. We foster teams of skilled listeners driven by intellectual curiosity. And it’s
this curiosity that drives us to discover new ways to create high-performance buildings for
a sustainable future.
TLC’s culture is one of professional growth and development, transparency, and
community engagement. Our employees, known as TLCers, are encouraged to
participate in professional associations where they can learn through shared knowledge.
We invest in continuing education as well as mentoring and training programs that
provide valuable skills to TLCers while enhancing our client-service delivery.
Following the successful launch of GreenWeek in 2012, our week-long education and
awareness event has become an annual occurrence. During GreenWeek, thought
leaders share their ideas and knowledge toward attaining sustainability in the built
environment. Overall, GreenWeek activities have reached over 2,000 attendees –
TLCers, clients, and teaming partners – and provided 1,000+ continuing education
credits.
We embrace openness and transparency to facilitate trust among our team and
increase employee engagement. TLCers learn about important company updates
from the leadership team through monthly assembly and quarterly town hall
meetings. As an open-book company, we share financial information with TLCers
on a regular basis to give them insight into the health and performance of the
company. Our participation in the International Living Future’s JUST Program, an
innovative transparency platform, reinforces our position as a socially just and
equitable firm.
We support employee participation in the communities in which we live and work.
TLCers are actively engaged in connecting with their communities, from joining
events benefitting the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and the Make-A-
Wish Foundation to particiating in Corporate 5Ks and volunteering at schools.
TLC also has an established Women’s Initiative program whose mission is to
promote a diverse and balanced working environment for all TLCers. Our women
leaders are empowered to participate in outreach efforts aimed at encouraging
young women to pursue a career in engineering. They also share ideas and build
connections with other like-minded leaders from companies with similar programs.
TLC is a company where you can make a difference and accomplish your career
goals, all while making the world a better place.

SERVICES
MECHANICAL
Operational simplicity, efficiencies, initial cost and environmental impact are key
considerations in HVAC system design and selection. Detailed energy models are
used to achieve the most appropriate solution by analyzing various heating and cooling
options. TLC designs systems that realize architectural vision and produce design
documents that are well coordinated.
ELECTRICAL
TLC specializes in designing electrical systems that provide dependable, efficient, high
quality power for high-performance buildings. Proper lighting design, daylight modeling,
device selection and lighting controls combine to increase efficiency, provide building
safety, regulate power requirements and manage utility costs.
PLUMBING / FIRE PROTECTION
TLC is experienced in the design of potable, gray, storm and wastewater systems. Our
licensed fire protection engineering specialists provide fire protection design and building
code / life safety code consultation. Specifically for healthcare facilities, we focus on
regulatory compliance and life safety evaluations to prepare for life safety surveys and
support The Joint Commission statement of conditions / assessments.
STRUCTURAL
Structural integrity is born from thoughtful, strategic design. TLC’s cost-effective,
innovative structural solutions feature high-strength concrete, steel, engineered wood
and other sustainable materials in a variety of systems, including high-rise, long-span,
post-tensioned and tilt-wall design.
As strategic partners in the design process, TLC’s structural engineers use leading-edge
technology for design, including fully integrated Revit Structure. Technology supports the
evaluation of the most appropriate structural system, given the specific project conditions
and demands. BIM allows the design team to focus on the design of an efficient structural
framing system and to provide visualization of the design as it evolves. The coordination
of the structure design with architectural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing disciplines
aids in resolving potential conflicts prior to construction.
TECHNOLOGY
TLC raises the bar for incorporating technology into our building designs to enhance
functionality and protect building users. Using the latest software and tools, TLC’s
RCDD-credentialed team produces leading-edge designs that support unique project
requirements. Rapidly evolving technology demands that designs are crafted for
flexibility, growth and change. Specialized applications include integrated security,
audio-visual presentation, voice/video/data distribution, public address/sound, acoustical
analysis, and broadband distribution.

PEAK INSTITUTE
PEAK Institute, or PI, is a technical resource center created
to support all aspects of high performance buildings that have
sought TLC’s expertise. PI is primarily focused on connecting
our staff as we solve complex applications of new building
technologies, enabling us to challenge clients with ideas,
solutions, data and practical operations strategies.
As a think tank, PI collects TLC’s research efforts on rapidly
moving developments in the building industry. As PI team
members evaluate the latest trends and developments, their
unbiased opinions serve our clients well. Recent examples
include creating energy modeling algorithms to accurately
evaluate dynamic glazing options and developing circadian
lighting strategies to support WELL Building Standard TM -focused
work environments.
PI is our innovation hub where we gather, evaluate and share
technical and practical knowledge. The collective expertise of the
TLC’s team leads the industry. PI positions us to make the most
of that to benefit our clients by driving innovation and creativity
into our designs.
Many, but not all, TLC projects have
unique technical requirements
or demanding high performance
requirements. PI positions us to excel
on those projects. By realigning our
resources, we’re assuring that our
clients and their complex projects
have the best knowledge available,
where and when they need it. By
intertwining the PI core team with
staff from every TLC operating unit,
we support our continued growth
and consistency of experience for our
clients.”

ENERGY
Our in-house team of sustainability consultants and energy performance specialists
provide new and existing building commissioning, net operating income improvements,
energy modeling and sustainability consulting. We have delivered 430+ LEED-certified
projects, as well as projects earning certification from the Florida Green Building
Coalition, Green Building Initiative and the International Living Future Institute.
In May 2009, TLC made the AIA 2030 Commitment, one of the first MEP firms
nationwide to do so. We are living our commitment daily, resulting in ongoing changes
and improvements to our work processes, business practices, education and training.
ACOUSTICAL
Noise levels that are properly managed can enhance operations or when unmanaged,
negatively impact building occupants and those nearby. As we have direct expertise is in
MEP, we approach our recommendations based on the most practical and cost-effective
approach, whether it is through a surface treatment, an adjustment of architecture, or by
selection of a quieter piece of mechanical equipment. The ultimate goal of our acoustical
specialists is to assure advantageous noises are clearly heard and that less desirable
noises are mitigated or managed, resulting in higher quality environments.
