Welcome to the 22nd Century Media All-Area team: Team 22. Thanks to help from area<br />

coaches and the eyes of 22nd Century Media staff, the best players were selected from<br />

the six high schools — Glenbrook North (GBN), Glenbrook South (GBS), Highland Park<br />

(HP), Lake Forest (<strong>LF</strong>), Loyola Academy (LA) and New Trier (NT) — in our coverage area.<br />

Quarterback<br />

Michael Bauer, GBS junior<br />

• 914 passing yards, 11 TDs; After splitting<br />

time at the position early in the season,<br />

Bauer solidified himself as the team’s<br />

starter.<br />

Quarterback<br />

JT Thomas, LA junior<br />

• 1,212 passing yards, 14 total<br />

TDs; After splitting time at the<br />

position at the beginning of the<br />

season, the junior took control of<br />

the position and helped lead Loyola<br />

to a quarterfinal appearance.<br />

Michael Ciss, GBN senior<br />

• 1,125 yards, 16 total TDs; The<br />

Spartan runner had quite the<br />

season, averaging 7.03 yards<br />

per carry.<br />

Vaughn Pemberton, LA junior<br />

• 816 yards, 14 TDs; Loyola’s<br />

lead running back battled injury<br />

but was dominant when he<br />

played, averaging 6.9 yards per<br />

• 46 catches, 667 yards, 6<br />

TDs; A finalist for the Central<br />

Suburban League South<br />

Offensive Player of the Year,<br />

the Titan became quarterback<br />

Michael Bauer’s go-to target.<br />

Giovanni Volpentesta, HP junior<br />

• 796 yards, 11 TDs; The CSL All-<br />

Conference two-way player ran with power<br />

out of the Giants’ backfield this season.<br />

Jahari Scott, <strong>LF</strong> sophomore<br />

• 1,026 yards, 8 TDs; Scott burst onto the<br />

scene, averaging 5.82 yards per carry.<br />

Wide receiver<br />

Avery Burow, GBN junior<br />

• 26 catches, 315 yards; Burow was a<br />

trusted target in key situations for GBN.<br />

Aiden Brownlee, LA junior<br />

• 29 catches, 327 yards, 3 TDs; The<br />

Ramblers receiver made some key<br />

catches to help Loyola’s postseason push.<br />

Andrew Koulogeorge, GBN senior<br />

• 36 catches, 508 yards, 2<br />

TDs; The Spartans’ top receiver<br />

connected with quarterback<br />

Dylan Buckner throughout the<br />

season, helping lead a strong<br />

Matt Mangan, LA senior<br />

• 35 catches, 520 yards,<br />

8 TDs; Loyola’s top passing<br />

target caught half the team’s<br />

touchdowns and earned<br />

Kyle Brattleaf, GBS senior<br />

• The CSL All-Conference tackle<br />

helped shore up the Titans’<br />

• A North Suburban Conference<br />

All-Conference honoree, the<br />

offensive lineman helped the<br />

Scouts’ running game average<br />

4.84 yards per carry.<br />

Connor Milliman, <strong>LF</strong> senior<br />

• 29 catches, 297 yards, 2 TDs; Milliman<br />

became a key target for the Scouts as the<br />

offense took off near the end of the year.<br />

Louis Schaller, GBN senior<br />

• A key cog on the Spartans’ line returned<br />

to the Second Team after a strong season.<br />

Jackson Carsello, GBN junior<br />

• The junior took a big step and will be a<br />

key returner for the Spartans next season.<br />

Peter Gianaris, LA senior<br />

• Loyola’s All-Conference lineman helped<br />

create holes for a strong rushing game.<br />

Josh Kreutz, LA junior<br />

• Kreutz took a big step his junior season,<br />

becoming an All-Conference lineman.<br />

Chris Lee, HP junior<br />

• Lee missed time with a hand injury, but<br />

when healthy, proved his value on the<br />

field.<br />

Christo Kelly, LA senior<br />

• The Holy Cross commit and<br />

CCL All-Conference honoree was<br />

a key part of a strong Ramblers<br />

line.<br />

David Davidkov, NT junior<br />

• Considered to be one of<br />

the best offensive linemen in<br />

the state, the junior led the<br />

Trevians’ line.<br />

Chris Hernandez, HP senior<br />

• The All-Conference honoree<br />

helped carve out running lanes<br />

for his Giants teammates.<br />

kicker<br />

Nate Van Zelst, LA junior<br />

• Loyola’s CCL All-Conference<br />

kicker made all six kicks,<br />

including a 49-yard conversion,<br />

and connected on 32 extra<br />

points.<br />
