Martina Maples ‘20 attended
“Medicine & the Body: Exploring Narrative
Mysteries” at Johns Hopkins University. She
learned about the unexpected ways humanities
intersect with medicine, science and technology.
Marilyn Orellana Segarra ‘19 was selected to be a mentor for the Malott
Family Zoo Intern Program (ZIP) at the Lincoln Park Zoo. During the summer of 2018, Marilyn
participated in ZIP as an intern, taking part in research experiences, professional development
activities and educating zoo guests about animal and conservation sciences. This past summer,
Marilyn was one of only two interns selected to be a program mentor! Marilyn was a Highsight
and Big Shoulders scholar.

through the AFS Language/
Intercultural Immersion Program.
Jackie spent five weeks getting to
know the people, customs and the
Japanese language. She and her
group explored Japanese art and
food and visited historic locations.
