NEW SCHOLARSHIPS
Our families make sacrifices daily to send their daughters to Mother McAuley. We are grateful
to all of our donors who have created scholarships in order to help ease that financial burden.
In the 2018-2019 school year, we were able to award four new scholarships!
Helen and Dick Carey Scholarship
The Helen and Dick Carey Scholarship was established by a Mother McAuley alumna in honor
of her parents. This scholarship will be awarded each year to an incoming freshman whose
mother, grandmother(s), and/or aunt(s) graduated from Mother McAuley, and will provide
$1,000 in tuition assistance to each recipient throughout her four years at Mother McAuley.
Mary Wurst Scholarship
The Mary Wurst Scholarship was created in memory of Mary Wurst, mother of mathematics
faculty member Vicki Kazin and a dedicated advocate of Catholic school education within our
community. This renewable half-tuition scholarship will help make an incoming freshman’s
dream of attending a Catholic high school a reality.
Sister Maura Mighty Mac Spirit Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of Sr. Maura Lowrey, RSM, the biggest fan of Mighty
Mac athletics! Since 1998, Sr. Maura has been in the crowd cheering on the Mighty Macs in volleyball,
basketball, water polo and softball—not to mention at pep rallies and assemblies. Her
cheers, advice, and prayers have been an inspiration to Mighty Mac athletes for decades. This
$250 nonrenewable scholarship will be awarded each year to a current student who shows
the same amount of spirit and dedication to supporting McAuley teams.
Stephen and Winifred (Gardner ‘59) Ligda Scholarship for Service
Stephen and Winifred (Gardner ‘59) Ligda have been dedicated supporters and volunteers at
Mother McAuley for many years. Steve, who passed away in 2017, was a former Chair and Life
Trustee of the Board of Trustees. This scholarship was established in Steve’s memory, honoring
his commitment to his Catholic faith through service to his parish of Most Holy Redeemer,
Mother McAuley and the community. Each year, this $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a
current freshman who is a graduate of Most Holy Redeemer School and has shown a strong
dedication to giving back to her community through service.
