A gospel in blank verse with rhymed parables
The World’s protagonists will find themselves
on trial with no case to formulate.
The Paraclete will prove them wrong on Sin,
on Judgement and on Righteousness as well.
On sin, because they hated me and yet
they’ll learn it’s to my Father I return.
The Prince of Darkness stands condemned by me.
That makes their judgements unsustainable
so wherein lies the justice in their case?
There are still many things that you should know.
You could not bear them now but when He comes,
the bearer of the Spirit and of Truth
He’ll guide you all and you will find the Way.
He’ll speak not on His own authority
but what He hears from heaven. What’s to come
will always be well-known to Him, and what
I’ve said to you He will explain and show
how right I’ve been: and thus the name I bear
will be revered and glorified. For what
the Father has is mine, and what I’ve said
has been what He has shared with me… for we
are One.
Then Jesus raised his eyes and looked to heaven.
‘Father,’ he prayed, ‘My hour has almost come.
Please let my name be known. My sacrifice
will honour you and glorify your name,
especially since you’ve given me power to bring
eternal life to all humanity,
to every man and woman of your choice.
For they now know ‘eternal life’ is this:
to recognise Yourself as the true God
and see in Jesus Christ your only Son
the One who has been sent to spread your word
and do your work, and to exalt your name.
I did what I was sent to do on earth.
Now show them who I was before the earth
was ever made, and let them see me stand
beside you clothed in glory and in power.
These men and women whom you gave to me
I have instructed in the ways of truth
and they have kept your word. They recognise
that everything I told them comes from You:
and they believe that You it was who sent
me here on earth. But now I wish to pray
