Anambra begins e-registration of migrants
By Vincent Ujumadu
A WKA—ANAMBRA
State government has
commenced the e-
registration of migrants in
the state to enhance
effective monitoring and
control of foreigners.
Governor Willie Obiano,
who spoke at Anambra
State Command
headquarters of the
Nigeria Immigration
Service during the take off
of the exercise, explained
By Ikechukwu Odu
N SUKKA—THE
Academic Staff
Union of Universities,
ASUU, University of
Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN,
branch has refused to be
enrolled in to the Integrated
Payroll and Personnel
Information System, IPPIS.
The union said the branch
cannot deviate from the
directives of the National
Executive Council, NEC, of
the body which asked the
members to boycott the
exercise nationwide.
Meanwhile, when
Vanguard visited the Epko
Convocation Arena, the
venue for the exercise, only
non-academic staff of the
institution were seen
enrolling into the scheme,
even as the monitoring
team set up by the UNN
ASUU were seen mounting
the entrance to the venue
to ensure zero-compiance
of members.
Speaking on the
that the e-registration would
help all security agencies
and institutions involved in
migration management to
monitor and coordinate
their activities.
According to the
governor, who spoke
through the Secretary to
State Government, SSG,
Professor Solo
Chukwulobelu, the
exercise would also help
the state to know those that
were illegal migrants in the
state and what they do, so
development, the
chairman of the branch,
Christian Opata, said the
Federal Government has
not honoured the
agreement it reached with
the union in respect to the
enrolment, adding that
ASUU is not sabotaging
the fight against corruption
by the ruling All
Progressives Congress,
APC.
He said: “After series of
negotiation, government
told ASUU to design a
template. The union is still
in the process and the same
government is asking us to
as to help to fish out
criminals among them.
He called on landlords
and owners of premises that
were accommodating
migrants, including hotels,
guest houses, employers of
expatriates, traditional
rulers, market/traders
associations, presidents'
general of town unions
and academic institutions
with foreign students, to
ensure that such migrants
complied with provisions
of immigration
campaign initiative of the
on the promises it reached
with the union.
“ASUU told the Federal
Government to capture all
the agreements it reached
with the union in a
document but it reneged.
As it stands now, there is
no document signed
between Federal
Government and ASUU on
IPPIS. ASUU asked that
peculiarities of lecturers
should be captured and
that has not been done, so,
that is the bone of
contention.
“As it concerns UNN, the
Federal Government.
The campaign, which is
powered by National
Library of Nigeria, Enugu
branch, in partnership with
Ebonyi State command of
Nigeria Correctional
Service was put in place to
guarantee the intellectual
and character development
regulations.
The Controller of
Immigration in the state,
Mrs. Tochukwu Agwai,
recalled that President
Muhammadu Buhari had
earlier in the year
inaugurated the exercise
in Abuja and declared a
period of amnesty to all
migrants.
According to her, by the
end by January 2020, all
migrants would have
presented themselves for
the e-registration.
exercise started yesterday.
I went there to monitor what
was happening with my
members, but when we got
there, the hall was empty.
It started with the Faculty
of Social Sciences, no
lecturer was seen within
the arena.”
Also speaking on the
development, the treasurer
of the union in UNN,
Oyibo Eze, said members
should not embrace the
enrollment, which he
described as a twin sister
to the Structural
Adjustment Programme,
SAP, handed over to
of inmates across the 36
states of the federation.
The National Librarian,
Professor Lenrie Aina, who
was represented by the
this in Owerri, also called
The outstanding feat,
according to the
Executive Chairman of
Enugu State Post Primary
Schools Management
Board (PPSMB), Barr.
Nestor Ezeme, who
received the award on
behalf of the school, was
a fallout from various
educational
interventions by
Governor Ifeanyi
administration, which
ensured the overhaul of
Other pivotal
interventions, according
to him, include
“installation of ICT/E-
works department of the
‘Touts battling reforms
in Onne Port’
By Chinonso Alozie
Comptroller, Galadima
Saidu, not to be deterred
in ensuring that the right
thing was done.
It was Obichere’s view
that “the eagle-eyed
officers and men of the
Federal Ocean Terminal,
FOT, Gate, Onne
Customs Service, are
implementing the laws
in order to make sure that
goods passing through
the gate are well
documented and normal
duty paid to the Federal
Government.
“But they have
attracted hatred and
threats to themselves as
some agents/touts are
trying to smear them for
not compromising.
“This is as the customs
men at the FOT gate
Onne have redoubled
their efforts in keeping
with the norms of
international
documentation of goods.”
