Mbappé: Madrid
will wait for me
In the last week, mixed in
with the excitement
over PSG’s visit to the
Santiago Bernabéu for
Champions League duty,
rumours have been rife -
not for the first time - about
the possible arrival of
Kylian Mbappé to the Real
Madrid ranks. And a man
that was close to the young
star says it’s just a matter of
time.
As the Parisien giants
continue to try and
convince their national
treasure to renew his
contract with them, Los
Blancos manager Zinedine
Zidane has been throwing
out further ‘love’ in his
compatriot’s direction in
order to tighten the bond
even further. Following the
2-2 draw on Tuesday
evening, Vadim Vasilyev,
former vice president of the
player’s previous club AS
Monaco, told Le Parisien
that he only sees Mbappé’s
future at the LaLiga side.
“When? I don’t know,”
Vasilyev answered, “but it
seems Inevitable.
Emery: Arsenal board
won’t sack me
Arsenal head coach
Unai Emery says he
has the club’s support
despite a disappointing
season, dismissing claims
that he was set to be sacked.
Arsenal are currently
eighth in the Premier
League and have failed to
win any of their last five
league games.
The Gunners were booed
off following the 2-2 home
Towards the
bid to host the 2022
National Sports Festival,
Governor Emeka
Ihedioha led the
Minister of Sports, Mr.
Sunday Dare on an
inspection of some of the
facilities designated to
host the event yesterday.
The governor and his
entourage which
included Mr. Dare
arrived at the Dan
Anyiam Stadium at about
10 in the morning and
went straight to the main
bowl of the stadium
which is still undergoing
massive renovation to
bring the facilities up to
the required standard.
The main pitch was
being regrassed with
groundsmen working
while construction
workers were busy
working on the terraces
which had been in a
state of disrepair under
the previous regime.
The governor and the
minister were assured by
the contractors handling
the various renovation
works at the stadium that
the facilities will be
ready before the next
round of inspection.
The entourage also
inspected the indoor
sports before moving to
the prestigious Concorde
Hotel venue of the Imo
Sports Summit.
In his speech, Mr. Dare
revealed that since he
became minister, Imo
was the first state in the
South East he will be
visiting because he felt
Governor Ihedioha
shared the same
aspirations with the
sports ministry.
“During our inspection
of some sports facilities
in the state,my mood
moved from that of
depression to hope
because it’s obvious the
governor has started
matching words with
action on his mission to
rebuild Imo.”
Before the Sports
Summit started at the
Concorde Hotel, the
Deputy Governor of the
state Hon. Gerald Irona
officially unveiled the
mascot for the Imo 2022
bid.
Before then, members
of the bidding committee
chaired by former AFN
president, Dan Ngerem
were inaugurated.
The chairman of the
Imo State Sports
Commission, Chief Fan
Joshua should be
confident he can beat
Ruiz Jr, says Tyson
Mike Tyson says Anthony Joshua
doesn’t need to be worried about
facing off against Andy Ruiz Jr. if he has
properly analysed what went wrong last
time, while he questioned the Mexican’s
weight loss.
The two heavyweights go head-to-head
once again in Saudi Arabia at the start of
December with AJ looking to win back
the WBA, IBF and WBO titles he lost
after being stopped in the seventh round
at Madison Square Garden. Both fighters
have noticeably slimmed down since
their previous meeting and Tyson isn’t
sure that is wise, while he feels Joshua
can have success in the rematch.
Asked what AJ needs to do in the
rematch, Tyson told Parimatch:
‘Obviously he knows what happened,
because I’m sure he’s watched the films.
“Because if he’s intelligent like I
believe he is, he watched the films over
and over of the last encounter he had
with Ruiz. And he’s worried, but he
should be confident that he can be
successful.”
PSG want
Simeone to
replace Tuchel
PSG’s surprise
Champions League exit last
season at the hands of Manchester
United, coupled with the failure to defend
both domestic cup titles, has left Thomas
Tuchel’s stock rather flat at the Parc des Princes,
where the feeling is that another change of coach
will be necessary to bring the Champions League
success that the Ligue 1 club crave.
Barring a run to the final this season, another
Ligue 1 title may not be enough to convince PSG’s
Qatari backers that Tuchel is the man to lead them
to glory on the continental stage. The French side
have sealed top spot in group A ahead of Real
Madrid, which should provide a softer last 16
opponent, but PSG’s record in the knock-out
stages over recent seasons does not lend itself to
over-confidence: the Ligue 1 side have exited at
the last-16 stage in each of the past three seasons
and have never been beyond the quarter-finals.
Fabinho’s injury could be
massive – Klopp
Jurgen Klopp says he
is unsure of the
severity of Fabinho’s
injury, but says the
outcome is “massive”
after the midfielder
limped off in Liverpool’s
1-1 draw with Napoli.
Fabinho, who has
played in all but one of
Liverpool’s Premier
League games this
season, limped off in the
first half after team-mate
Dejan Lovren attempted
to tackle Hirving
Lozano. “The biggest
thing is the Fabinho
injury, that’s massive,”
said Klopp.
“It’s early and we all
hope it’s not too serious
but it’s pretty painful
and in an area you don’t
want to have pain,
around the ankle.”
