44—Vanguard, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2019 Rohr doesn't deserve contract extension – Adamu By Tony Ubani As Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr waits eagerly for a renewal of his contract by the NFF, former Director-General of the defunct National Sports Commission, Dr. Amos Adamu has kicked against its renewal and asked "what has he won for the country". Adamu, a former FIFA Executive Committee member who spoke in Owerri at the Imo State Sports Commission Summit tagged "Rebuilding Imo through Sports" said that Rohr does not deserve a contract renewal because he has not achieved anything with the Super Eagles. Adamu spoke to Sports Vanguard after the inauguration of the Imo State Sports Festival bid committee for 2022. The contract of Rohr expires in June 2020 with no renewal offer on the table yet. And in this case there wasn’t any endorsement by majority of the board members and this renders the meeting illegal. Nigerian, South African Bikers to restore bilateral relations By Sam Eyoboka AS part of efforts to restore relations and strengthen the bond between Nigeria and South Africa, bikers from both countries are set to embark on a biking initiative to promote unity. The exercise tagged ‘Africa Unite Bike Ride’ will hold from December 4-16 in South Africa under the auspices MzansiNaija and Inspire Marketing & Branding International. Speaking on the event, Chief Executive Officer, Inspire Marketing and Branding International, Mr. Yinka Abioye said the ride will involve a minimum of two Nigerian and four South African bikers. He said: “They are going to visit historical, cultural and geographical places of interest in South Africa, one of them being the Mandela bridge. “The objective of the ride is to instill and encourage unity among African people by reshaping African minds about who we are, the value we could bring to one another, and the benefits of ‘building bridges’ across the continent. “Bikers under the initiative will visit an African country annually to highlight and celebrate one another and to continue fostering relations and sacrifices that our leaders contribute to their various countries and our continent.” According to him, the tour will help inspire reconciliation and foster unity between both countries in the wake of recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa. Ironically, Delta Force also bought their spot on the NPFL from Kada Stars, but because of financial constraints they have been force to sell to Kwara United. The deal was struck, after both sides reached an agreement in Asaba. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha vowing that the State would become the Mecca of Sports in Nigeria. In a colorful ceremony that saw the Concorde Hotel venue filled to the brim, Governor Ihedioha said that he was convinced that Imo State with the array of sports men and women it produced deserved to be the epicenter of sports in Nigeria. Among the dignitaries who were present include Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Akin Dare, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Hon. Gerald Irona, Deputy Governor of Imo, Hon Uche Onyeagocha, SSG, Chief Fan Ndubuoke, Executive Chairman Imo State Sports Council, Dan Ngerem, Chairman Imo State Sports Festival Bid Committee chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, Mike Itemuagbor, Felix Awogu, Mitchel Obi, draw against Southampton on Saturday, but Emery says he does not feel any pressure from the club. He said: “The club is supporting me. I feel the club is responsible in that area. Towards the actualization of Imo State bid to host the 2022 National Sports Festival, Governor Emeka Ihedioha led the Minister of Sports, Mr. Sunday Dare on an inspection of some of the facilities designated to host the event yesterday. The governor and his entourage which included Mr. Dare arrived at the Dan Anyiam Stadium at about 10 in the morning and went straight to the main bowl of the stadium which is still undergoing massive renovation to bring the facilities up to the required standard. The main pitch was being regrassed with groundsmen working while construction workers were busy working on the terraces which had been in a state of disrepair under the previous regime. The governor and the minister were assured by the contractors handling the various renovation works at the stadium that the facilities will be ready before the next round of inspection. The entourage also inspected the indoor sports before moving to the prestigious Concorde Hotel venue of the Imo Sports Summit. In his speech, Mr. Dare revealed that since he became minister, Imo was the first state in the South East he will be visiting because he felt Governor Ihedioha shared the same aspirations with the sports ministry. “During our inspection of some sports facilities in the state,my mood moved from that of depression to hope because it’s obvious the governor has started matching words with action on his mission to rebuild Imo.” Before the Sports Summit started at the Concorde Hotel, the Deputy Governor of the state Hon. Gerald Irona officially unveiled the mascot for the Imo 2022 bid. Before then, members of the bidding committee chaired by former AFN president, Dan Ngerem were inaugurated.
