Raring2go! WHAT TO DO
Who? What? When? Where?
There’s LOTS going on…
We were excited to visit
Macduff Marine Aquarium’s
new rock pools and shark
hatchery during the October
holidays. This popular exhibit
has been given a total makeover
and looks spectacular! We’ll be
back in December to see their Diving Santa (14th,
15th and 21st December) and to see how the
baby sharks, young dogfish and rays are getting
on in their new home! You can win tickets to come
too! See page 21.
‘Tis the season of giving for Community Food
Initiatives North East (CFINE). For too many
families, Christmas is the time of hunger. CFINE’s
foodbank distributed over 4,300 emergency
parcels to people in need between November
2018 – January 2019 - this
equates to 71,000 meals.
CFINE is expecting an
increase in demand during
the run up to Christmas
this year. The expected
rise in food parcel uptake
worries them as no one
should go hungry during
the festivities. If you are in the position to, please
help CFINE tackle holiday hunger. Only £5
supplies a family with emergency food, toiletries
and gives access to benefit and budgeting
advice. CFINE also welcomes food donations.

Aberdeen’s beautiful Art Gallery
reopened this month after
extensive renovations. The word
on the street is that after four
years it is “re-imagined, re-born,
ready to be re-discovered”
– we can’t wait to see for
ourselves. With free entry
and over 1,000 objects to
see there’s a lot to keep
you occupied – and the two
cafés and two shops, buggy
park, lots of toilets and Art
Explorer activities for kids
(and free Wi-Fi too!) make it
super family friendly!
Our friends at Homestart
Aberdeen are running a Children’s
Book Advent Appeal. They’re
aiming to provide each of their
supported families with a bundle
of 24 wrapped, new books to be opened daily
during December. Could you help by donating
a new book for one of the following categories:
Age 0-2, 3-5, Sensory? They’ll be collecting until
15th November and books can be handed in to
their office at 1A Alford Place, Aberdeen or into
their shop at 101 George St, Aberdeen.
The Ramblers, the charity
which helps everyone,
everywhere, enjoy walking and
protects the places we all love
to walk is running a Festival
Of Winter Walks, from 20
December 2019 to 5 January
2020. Ramblers groups across
the UK will offer a warm welcome on hundreds
of free festive walks. No matter where you live,
and whether or not you’ve walked before, they’ll
offer the chance to enjoy the wonderful winter
landscape in good company; to relax, unwind
and stress-bust, and to make new friends at a
time of year when many people can feel anxious,
stressed or isolated.
There will be fun winter-themed walks that the
little ones will love; leisurely strolls under five
miles for people new to walking; and longer
walks for those that want more of a challenge.
For those of you who may be short on time or
want a gentler stroll, there will be Ramblers’
health walks. Check out W: ramblers.org.uk/
go-walking/find-a-walk-or-route to find a walk
near you!
