The Word on the Street

haddonfield.today | 3

As the holidays approach,

children, especially, have hopes

of receiving particular gifts.

What’s the one gift that,

as a child, you really wanted

but never received?

As a child, SAM

SHINDELL of

San Diego always

wanted a pet lizard.

“There were lots of

them in the area

where I grew up, and

I would bring them

home. But my Mom

would never let me

keep them.” Maybe

Santa will bring you

one this year, Sam.

For PATTI RAY of

Voorhees, the dream

toy was a Barbie

van. “There was a

girl up the street

who had one, and I

was definitely super

jealous,” says Patti.

Every year,

Washington

Twp’s JORDAN

FITZGIBBON

would ask for a

pair of nunchucks.

“In hindsight, it’s

probably for the best

I didn’t get them,” he

says.

CHARLIE

FITZPATRICK

looked forward to

receiving “something

made by hand. I was

never into toys that

much. I just wanted

something heartfelt,

with a little bit of

effort behind it.”

As a young girl,

KATIE FISHER of

Bellmawr wanted

some “cool boy

toys, like Legos,”

but her Mom had

a more traditional

view of what

was appropriate.

“Actually, I think she

just didn’t want to

have to clean up my

mess,” says Katie.

The brother of

JOSH SUTTON, of

Houston TX, told him

for months that he

was going to give

him some GI Joe

action figures. “I got

super excited,” Josh

says, “but when I

unwrapped my gift,

all that was inside

was a roll of toilet

paper. I guess I’d still

like a GI Joe!”

PLEASE HELP HERD COVER THE

COSTS OF ITS BANCROFT FIGHT!

On October 22, the campaign for age-restricted housing at Bancroft

achieved a major goal when a Camden County Superior Court judge

confirmed that the Haddonfield Commissioners must “take steps to

redesign the development project ... to achieve age restriction“ (i.e. a

development designed specifically for those age 55 plus).

Haddonfield Encouraging Responsible Development (“HERD”) has

been waging its campaign for age-restricted housing at Bancroft for

several years, in opposition to the Commissioners’ developer-friendly

and meaningless “age-targeted” proposals. We have contributed money

ourselves, and many members of the community have contributed

also. We have raised more than $26,000 online and in direct donations

towards estimated legal and other expenses of more than $40,000.

We are most grateful for the support received to date, but to meet

our obligations we must continue to appeal for contributions from the

community.

we need your help – now! – to cover our costs.

Please visit GoFundMe.com and type “Bancroft Ordinance”

in the search box, or scan the QR code to donate on your cell.

Or mail a check payable to “HERD” to PO Box 60, Haddonfield.

Every contribution makes the goal more attainable. If you have

contributed already, please consider an additional donation at this time.
