Style Magazine: January 2020

Today was a good day. I was pampered by professionals with a haircut, color, and multiple conditioning treatments (yep, my hair was that haggard); dolled up with a faceful of makeup; and dressed in something other than spit-up stained jeans. Seriously, the stylists at Halo Salon & Day Spa in Roseville are a cut above the rest (pun intended). They made me feel comfortable, confident in their ability to transform my overly bleached (and balding) hair, and were total team players. I walked in worn-out and disheveled and left looking put together and polished for the first time in a long time. I wasn’t the only Styler to get treated to a makeover this month. Eight others also volunteered to partake (it’s a tough job but some of us had to do it!) and are welcoming the new year with a new look—whether in the form of purple-hued highlights, long layers, or saying farewell to facial hair (two fellas were lucky enough to get groomed, too). Curious to see the transformations? Flip to page 43 for the before and after pics, along with commentary about what all was done and why. Maybe this is the year you, too, step out of your style-comfort zone and do something different with your ‘do. After all, in the words of Sheryl Crow, “a change would do you good!” Are you joining the majority of Americans and resolving to eat healthier or exercise more in 2020? If so, this month’s mag has everything you need to make your resolution a reality. In The 10 Spot (page 20), Tara Mendanha suggests wacky workouts that combine fitness with fun (a yoga practice on stand-up paddleboards, anyone?), ensuring breaking a sweat doesn’t have to be boring; in Taste (page 88), we recommend and share the recipes for three sensational salads (including the colorful keto one featured on our cover); and in The Hot List (page 87), Tara Harbert writes about six plant-based plates found around town that are nutritious and delicious. As we welcome a new year, and say farewell to the season of serving others, I encourage you to do something nice for yourself. Whether it’s booking a beauty appointment, going for a walk sans kiddos and canines, or cozying up with this here copy of Style for some uninterrupted reading time, a little self-care—and fresh hair—goes a long way. Cheers!
